1. Twenty years ago was my Very first U2 concert ever ...
I remember it like yesterday and never will forget ...
when i was walking with some friends trough my little village there was a Record store where you could get concert tickets for outside your own country ...we walked by and saw the sing : Tickets for U2 concerts Dortmund/Paris/londen ....I went crazy ...i wanted this so badly for a long long time ...we deside to get in the store and bought the Tickets for the Dortmund concert on 1992/06/04 inclusief a bustrip to dortmund ...we get a voucher and that was it ....
When the day arrived i got with my friends to Utrecht central station to wait for the bus who picked us ...and there we go ..In the bus the "Real concert tickets " where spread and some lucky bastards got field tickets except me
I don't remember much of the moment we arrived in Dortmund ...i only remember the big sing above the entree that say : Thanks for coming to this concert ...see you next year U2 ... so at that point i realized that the Tour will go on in 1993 ...Than we got inside the westfalle hallen ...we brought our coats away and start looking for our place on the second ring Hmmmm behind the stage ...is this true i hope not ...
then we found out that everybody was going to sit down where they wanted ...so we decide to foun ourself better places ...and we did ..
we could see the whole stage from there .... i don't remember nothing of the support act i was to nervous cause i wanted to see My Band ...
and there it was ....at 21.00 the concert started.

This day i will never forget .....

so how was your first U2 concert?...Tell me?
  2. Got goosebumps watching the emiel - absolutely brilliant.

Best U2 period ever for me. Nothing comes close
  3. The first U2 concert of anyone always holds a special place in our hearts It was a nice read, emiel, thanks a lot and enjoy the anniversary
  4. Thanks ...
  5. Great history !!!!!

My story is similar. I arrived at 2 pm at the stadium to watch the first show in history in Argentina by the Popmart tour. The ticket was expensive and I had been out of work a while before and i was with no money and was hesitant to go, but a cousin gave me ticket as a present !
The wait in the stadium was enterna!!!
two Argentines support groups played , who were not bad, but I was desperate that time comes. It was hot as hell, I was all wet, but when the time was there on.
I listened for the first in my life Bitter sweet symphony of the verve, after mission impossible and pulled Popp muzik! What a emotion!! and the band went from one walking down the catwalk (I had them at 1 meter) .... Mofo started and the rest is history
  6. Hello hello!
That was also my 1st U2 concert!
The 1st of 29 concerts... tbc.
  7. I was 14 when this happened. Dortmund is just around the corner from my place. Just where have I been, if not there?!?

Emiel, fantastic story you never forget your first U2 show, never I know Westfalenhalle like my own home, have been there a zillion times over the years. So reading how you arrived, got in and everything made me feel like going along with you.... thanks for sharing
  8. Just came across the full video (2 cam multicam) version of this show on Youtube, I used to have it but lost it long ago... God, what a show, what a tour. I might have watched the UTEOTW > Horses link from different shows a thousand times by now but it still brings shivers down my spine. The video is excellent, and so are the audio and performance (that Love Is Blindness!). Not to mention the audience! Check out the crowd singing along to Unchained Melody at the end of One, or Bad/AIWIY. To think our missed Emiel was part of that crowd brings a tear to my eye

  9. I actually get chills seeing Emiel started this thread...
I really hope he's in a good and warm place right now....
  10. same goes for me
  11. It's always poignant to see Emiel's posts. It would have been great to read his thoughts on Songs of Innocence and the current tour.
