  1. Just finished listening to the bootleg. Amazing night! Nevermind the setlist the band was on fire last night! Always seems like some of their best shows are in Chicago!

    Last night was spot-on from the first note of Joey Ramone till...La Bamba...
    But then an incredible BTBS, Pride, Beautiful Day and of course All I Want Is You + WOWY...
    you are correct .good vibes lastnight ...cobl is is quite difficult to sing just think it might be easier on bono to sing it earlier in the show.
  3. Like a couple others, I was at the show last night and it was incredible. Great set list! I will be at tonight's show, too, and might add more substantial thoughts tomorrow when I'm back home with a computer, but for now:

    1. Gloria. Wow. So awesome to hear this debuted!

    2. The visuals during Cedarwood Road are even cooler in person. Incredible.

    3. The crowd LOVED the fan interaction on the e stage during Desire. Lots of fun!

    4. As much as it might seem overplayed, Pride got every single person on their feet and together into the song. A definite, powerful highlight, especially with being connected with the Supreme Courts decision on marriage equality a couple days ago.

    Excited for tonight again!

  5. Good to hear first hand reports! - Although, man, you wouldn't believe how CLOSE I felt with the front-row/RAIL periscope from last night...OMG!
    Anyway, I couldn't see the e-stage thing, but I did actually laugh with the La Bamba bit and, too, when Kevin told us about how he just had beaten cancer, I got the shivers down my spine...

    BTW...the One closing was also pretty impresive...

  8. The (ademotte) "boot" is absolutely stunning! Last night's sound, atmosphere+spirit are beautiful captured and in perfect harmony... 5stars from me!
  9. Can't believe we have another show coming up in 10 hours. I'm so tempted every night to stay awake.

    Anyway, what I wanted to mention is that Bono somewhere says something like "Sunday Night, Monday morning feel" - as if he KNEW that people from Europe and ROTW where listning in...
    IT IS ALL SO COOL (omg...I'm still so hyped...better stay away for a couple of hours...LOL)

  12. Thoughts from Night 3...

    The Miracle is a terrific opener.

    This song really clicked for me after hearing it live. I thought it was a good song and all, but that it was falling a little flat when I was tuning into the live streams before seeing it firsthand. I had a debate with a huge U2 fan that I had lunch with that I think The Miracle is actually a better opener than Breathe...jury's still out on that one, but it's a damn good song to kick off the show with.

    Gloria....WOW.

    Even I had to correct Bono live, as I turned to my dad and said "Actually, it's been about ten years..." ...but oh my god, was that performance outstanding. From Bono's "TWO THREE FOUR!" to the closing coda of the song, even my dad was jumping up and down with fists in the air, re-connecting with his inner, younger U2 fan.

    I thought I'd be bored of the "narrative" portion by now. I'm not.

    It is heartbreaking and emotional every single damn night. A spectacle of very personal theater and very beautiful music. It is not "cliche" or "hokey" or "contrived" - it is engaging, dark, loving, powerful, and delivered from the heart every night. The band BELIEVES in it, and it shows every time.

    Bono's voice is not in great shape.

    He sounded downright terrific during the first 5 or 6 songs, but during Raised By Wolves, it definitely started to give. I was amazed for nights one and two, based on how incredible he was singing for being "sick" and I think it's starting to catch up to him. RBW was a struggle, EBW was an even bigger struggle, and COBL did not sound like a good time. On that note...

    City of Blinding Lights is boring, and it needs to go.

    There, I said it. I am a HUGE fan of this song, but every performance I've seen of it so far has fallen flat. I guess night one was pretty cool, but even then it's only because the entire crowd had fists pumping to the lines in the chorus...beyond that, there isn't really much energy....and I blame it on the band. Honestly, look at the Vertigo performances where it opened shows, and the 360 Tour shows that had the incredibly energetic Bono...nothing even remotely close is happening like that when they play this song. Edge wanders down the catwalk, Bono does a little mingling...and that's it. There isn't as much of a connection as there should be.

    The crowd sing-along version of One is the breath of fresh air that song has needed.

    When Dallas brought out Edge's Les Paul, I thought "a new closer!" since One had just been played on night two. But then I realized, since it was the day of the official Gay Pride Parade in Chicago, and there was a definite "Love Wins" theme throughout the night, closing with a song about "one love" was entirely too appropriate. Letting the "city of big shoulders" do the singing, arm in arm, is a beautiful moment and an inspiring way to leave the show.

    Mark my words: U2 will play the Park West in the next week.

    "We used to play the Park West...it'd be great to play the Park West again......note to self."

    In terms of energy and performance, I'd rank this one as a slight second behind N2, probably just because I was in the pit for N2 and the performances were just top-notch compared to several misses tonight. I was stunned by Gloria, and All I Want Is You was unbelievable, but the E-stage stuff fell pretty flat for me. I don't care much for Lucifer's Hands, and Desire was a trainwreck even though it was fun to watch. I still have such mixed feelings about N1, trying to separate my blind joy and excitement from the actual show itself...N1 and N3 were probably pretty similar in terms of performance quality and energy, it just comes down to setlist at that point - where N3 clearly succeeds.
