    If you are streaming on mixlr and your intention is not to share with the world, you may be going about the whole thing wrong...

    Absolutely, you're just reinforcing my previous point. The tapers spends their money on buying and mantaining taping equipment and they risk it and sacrifice the show just to get a recording of the show. Nobody is obviously forced to share it afterwards or to do it with any specific rules - that's up to each taper. Problem is that once your recording is out there you absolutely lose control over it and your "rules" you wish over your recording may or may not be respected; and that's what has lead some tapers to save their recordings and not share it with the wide world web - something that I fully respect and understand.


    Now on to that mixlr recordings...
  6. Oh for sure. Once you release it, you're essentially expecting people to behave on the honor system. I still encourage people to be honorable but we know how far that can take you on the internet. So--there's a reason for not releasing recordings. But that's not the topic here

    I'm just all for encouraging folks to organize coverage and tapers, especially if they can't tape themselves. There's lots of tapers that enjoy taping, and may not be U2 fans. Those are folks that you should be seeking to cover shows.

    Totally makes sense, now that I think about it. Someone who has less interest in the band would probably stay much more focused on the task at hand and work to find the best spot for sound integrity (ie where there are no screaming mimi's and drunk frat boys hitting on chicks in the middle of songs ) as opposed to the fan trying for best spot for seeing the band. I get it...
  8. Or you're just tapping into a resource that wouldn't otherwise be utilized. There's a multiple of big U2 fans that also tape (myself included), but if you want to really expand coverage, either sponsor folks like me to tape (already done 12+ shows), or sponsor a non-U2 fan.
  9. I know the reason(s) why Remy was asked to take down the Boston 2 mixlr and as far as I'm concerned it was legit + understandable (and stays between the 3 of us).

    Hobbes4444 taped the show and shared already a 24 bit recording at dime. Needless to say that this recording is superior to the low-fi (but still awesomely rockin') Boston 2 mixlr.

    I can understand the thoughts & sentiments regarding taping and "covering" cities + tours as such. But that is not what the BIGGIRL "bootleg" project is all about - although it may sometimes looks that way

    The basic thought of my project is the joy of experiencing a U2 concert together – I am a strong defender of the “you too” reading, even if Bono doesn’t always agree (never trust a rockstar folks!) – and the feeling of wanting to share that experience & joy.
    Buying coverage of a city may be tempting but it is a thought that is related to quantity rather that quality.
    To be sure, the experience of joy is a qualitative one and, like love, can not be bought.

    This may also explain my fascination of the mixlr broadcast – and the ultimate mixlr-broadcast still being that of Sil Rigotte, I mean that WAS all about getting the joy & wonder across! And as far as I am concerned, recordings should be shared because the recorder has a good feeling about it, whatever that may be (enjoyable show, sympathy for the fans, collectors, completists, etc.) and if the motive is only financial, I feel a little uncomfortable (unless the money is used for doing something good in the world ).

    Anyway, this bootleg-project is, in a way, also an art-project. And although this is not the time and place to explain & defend my theory of art, my main premises is that art can not be private. Art is, by my definition, a social thing. Art is language: a way and a means to communicate. Not everything can be said; some things can only be shown, feelings in particular. The BIGGIRL bootlegs are intended to communicate the feeling of joy that comes from (the) U2.
