1. I heard that Bono stays at home while an impersonator sings
  2. well like 50% of Invisible is pre recorded except Bass, rhythm guitar and larry's snare, tom and cymbals
  3. blowing it out of proportions, really...
  4. I keep saying, this era of U2 is not the one we deserve. The unable to change arrangements because of the screen, the "theme, the Edge couldn't play 'Crystal Ballroom' because his 40 or what have you guitars don't know how to play it, peroxide hair Bono in lounge lizard attire era U2 is not what we deserve.

Oh and pre-recorded solo era Edge.

I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face if I was in this band. Really.

    Achtung Babies FTW
  5. One of the main reasons, is that U2 refuses to play on stage with additional musicians and background singers.
I think this is a strange way of thinking, because on the records they do.

The Edge is to busy during a concert.
  6. Comments for the concerts nr 4 in Boston

Comments: U2 wraps up its four-show visit to Boston -- a visit that Bono said during the show should've been 14 shows.

"Gloria" is played for the third time, and first since July 2 in Chicago.

The intermission break includes a new video. It continues to use the Berlin Wall imagery, but rather than Johnny Cash singing "The Wanderer," it's Gavin Friday's cover of "The Fly" complete with flashing words on the screen as U2 first used during the Zoo TV tour. It uses many of the same words and phrases: "What did the first punk rock girl wear to your school?," "BeLIEve," "Death is a career move," and so forth.

In the second set, Bono sings a snippet of the Eurythmics "Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves" -- Annie Lennox is reportedly at the show.

"Volcano" is played for the fifth time this tour, and first since June 25th in Chicago.

At the end of "Beautiful Day," Bono sings "Happy Birthday" to 13-year-old Evita, who's up on the stage with him.

As he's done at several shows lately, Bono lets the crowd sing almost all of "One," and the Boston audience does a loud and marvelous job.

The show ends with the sixth performance of "40" this tour. ( atu2.com)

I agree. I think that they should start reconsidering that approach, but in the end it's their prerogative to decide what to do.

On the other hand... why would it be better to have another musician playing those bits instead of they pre-recording them themselves? in one case Edge is not playing them live, and in the other... neither is he. So I really don't care.

Also, all the bootlegs are 100% pre-recorded material, so it's not like I find too much difference between the sound coming out from my speakers when I listen to a past bootleg or when I listen to a live stream...

Mentioned somewhere else, but the main intro of SFS at the beginning is a backing track. Edge was still changing his guitar when it started in Night 2 of Toronto.

    shocking...

  11. I think some are misinterpreting the concern. Of course there are backing tracks in a lot of U2 songs and that's more than okay, but the concern (in my opinion at least) is that the guitar solo is being played on the PA instead of by Edge. I wanna here the solo played by him. It's like seeing Led Zeppelin and having Jimmy Page's solo over the PA while he plays the chords. Yes those are 2 different bands and Invisible's solo is about 15 seconds while Jimmy Page can solo for 30 minutes, but it's the principle of it all. Sure it might sound the same on a bootleg, but why would I want it to sound the same? It doesnt have a chance to change if it's not even played. Magnificent's slide solo comes to mind. A slight change in the solo makes it sound so much better than the album version, but Invisible will never have that chance if the solo. the guitar solo. THE GUITAR SOLO!!!! is being played on the PA instead of by the guitarist. Plus, it's not like Edge has that many solos anyway, so not even playing one of the few solos we get sucks too.

    This.

A thousand times this, nobody can't fail seeing it.

As a guitar player myself I feel cheated. Who knows how many times I've thought "wow, my guitar hero, the man who pushed me to pick up my first guitar ten years ago, has really NAILED this or that solo" and it was pre-recorded?
