    Back during the 1980's here in the U.S. there a tremendous resurgence of reflection on the Vietnam war. It was far enough in the past at that point than teenagers like myself didn't really know much about it, and the country had moved well past the "hate all the veterans" stage.

    It was also the beginning of the use of digital speech sampling for effects and digital technology was starting to become a noticeable part of everyday life.

    The song, 19, was by Paul Hardcastle and was about the U.S's conflict in Vietnam and its impact upon the young kids, age 19, who were sent off to fight that pointless war. It was also notable for being one of the first songs to used digitally sampled speech in popular music. The most memorable part of that song being the refrain, "Na na na nineteen. nineteen. Na na na nineteen. nineteen."
