No, it's your loss as you lack an appreciation of their whole body of work. If it was left to you, U2 would only play the same 25 songs each tour.

Say what you want, but I'm not the one who's super bitter about the best band in the world going on tour.

    Just saying.

If I was bitter I'd sell off my collection. I'm just very disappointed.
  5. Interesting: at the nyc#1 concert/show,* right before the start of Elevation, Bono says: "there is no us; there is only them... (this is Elevation, c'mon!)"

Elevation was a concert. It delivered every night and I could feel it.
Think your definition of "concert" is fair, although technically it derives from the Latin "concerto" which means something like "competition" - the way performances were organized by the ancient Greeks and Romans (competitions in poetry, lute playing, theatre, etc.).
Moreover, the meaning of the word "concert" varies from one genre of music to the other. A classical concert is substantially different than a rock concert or even a jazz concert.

Undeniable there has been some sort of evolution of the rock concert, starting somewhere in 50-ies to where we are now. The show element – say, for brevity sake, the non-musical element; or, as the word “show” already suggests, the visual – was already present in Elvis’ moves. Now one can argue that Elvis never gave concerts (but only shows or “performances” – and I think I agree!). But what about The Doors? The Rolling Stones and The Who; Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Genesis and all those musical acts of the 70-ies. All these bands combined music and show in their live performances.
What if a concert is simply something you can enjoy with your eyes closed? Do we then simply ignore and dismiss the visuals behind our eyes? Is classical music strictly non-visual? I don’t think it is.

My point here is that the dividing line between “concert” and “show” is blurry when it comes to actual applying it in everyday language use. All in all I’m pretty sure we’re all here talking about the same phenomenon when we are denoting the various performances of the U2 ‘i+e’ Tour. Concert or show? As far as I’m concerned both are OK to use since it is clear to what is referred to (and isn’t this what language is supposed to do in the first place?).
  6. Nice catch! "There is no us, there's only them" directed at the audience, funny!

I agree 100%. Zoo TV was an event , unlike the tours I went to in the 1980s , and I attended 10 ZooTV shows . It was way too over the top for me .

Pop was the same thing , only the material from that album was weak and I only went to 1 show that tour. I hated that period .

Same thing can be said with 360 . Weak album , over the top shows .

As many critics stated , 360 was a fantastic event, like Pop , but the "show" was a complete distraction and took away from the focus which is supposed to be the music . Maybe this was their intention ?

I don't think its a coincidence , as the material from Pop and No Line was not strong at all , to say the least.

I loved the whole "back to basics" Elevation Tour…same goes for Vertigo 2005 .

My favorite shows are still from 1985 and 1987 . Followed by this years tour and Elevation/Vertigo .

The band took the stage back in the 80s and just played their hearts out .

No 75 foot lemons , no space ship station, no silly village people costumes, no Las Vegas Lady Ga Ga theatrics .

Just the band and most of all , their music .

So glad how this tour has gone down . I loved my 5 shows this summer .

    Just my 2 cents .

  10. I was born in 91 a week after Achtung Baby came out, so I missed out on the ZOO era. I was 7ish in the POP era. My parents didn't take me to the shows they went too, understandably of course. Elevation was my first show, and while it was amazing, I wish I could've seen to the Popmart shows when I was younger.

  11. Hey.
I think we should be friends.
  12. If you close your eyes, you can hear Civil Twilight and Temper Trap in its sound. The only part that sounds like U2 is the piano part. It's similar to 'Endless Deep' and bits of 'Yoshino Blossom' in that respect.
