    This is NOT based on number of interesting songs, but how interesting they are. There might be an album with 3 very interesting songs to me personally that is ranked higher than the one with 5 interesting songs - if that makes sense!

  5. You got it. It was an album that never grabbed me too much, lost interest quite a bit in it very easily.

    What I've noticed here is that everyone's rankings are completely different - very interesting.
  6. This is actually a fairly accurate representation of the Coldplay fanbase as a whole. Mylo Xyloto was the album that pretty much set off the dynamite. It was a huge departure from what Coldplay had done before, but Coldplay had experienced the most commercial and critical success from that album by far. It was a pop-sounding album that brought in a ton of new fans leading to a world tour that was visually stunning and well received although it's financial sustainability was questionable. And having the London Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony set to a Coldplay concert was their equivalent of downloading an album onto everyone phones. Not everyone liked it, but they had easy global exposure. In spite of all this, fans are still split on whether Mylo is their best or worst album.

    at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, i'd say their first five are all pretty incredible, but they all have such a different vibe going on that it's hard to compare them. i even think MX is, for an all-out mainstream electropop-type album - which is what they were shooting for - a great record (although maybe I'm biased as it was the first album of theirs that i had followed the release and build up for, as well as the first time i saw 'em live).

    only GS has been a disappointment for me, and its the only album of theirs i'd describe as bland or boring.
  8. I think Mylo is their best album so far. I think each album was great, has great singles, but have a few "album songs" that are ultimately forgettable. Mylo has album songs as well, but they serve a purpose to the overall musical construct of the album. Plus I just dig almost every song on it a lot. Hurts Like Heaven is easily my favourite Coldplay song.

    I'd say Viva La Vida was their biggest commercial success, not MX. But I agree on MX being a pivotal point that divided their fanbase in a sense.

  10. I was a lurker on one of the Coldplay fansites when MX was first released and man was that chaotic. You had people claiming MX to be a work of art and others threatening to leave the site because they thought it was so bad.
  11. ^ yep - I used to hang around Coldplaying a lot more back in the day, especially around the start of the MX era. Princess of China got some absolutely brutal comments if I remember right
  12. Princess of China... It's pretty good when Beyonce is there performing it live, but it's somewhat tepid otherwise. I think it was the most divisive song of the bunch.
