1. What I would give to hear a finished version of Pop..all you have to do is listen to the "new mix" versions of those songs to hear the clues. I think it would've been huge. Maybe not huge sales-wise and all that, I mean it wasn't just the music that made people roll their eyes, but still. It sounds unfinished. Great album, but yeah.
  2. When I just finished listening to the last song.. as I thought, another song kicks in. Apparently I added Winter to the tracklist at some point. Another great hidden gem.
  3. i still like the album
i dont think it was a flunk
    but soi is better

    my internet is slow
and cant get on some sites
    or do certain things
    or see certain things
    so am unfortunately
hop off the net and listen to music
  4. I'll have to listen to it again. This topic has inspired me to do so. I think I might make an alternate track listing playlist using the Linear order though. Ever since I saw that I've always thought it was better.

Hell, maybe I'll just watch Linear.

While I can understand this perspective, I actually prefer the original Pop overall, with the exceptions of Please and IGWS, which clearly sound "unfinished" and were improved upon with the single versions. I think they overthought and overdid the other songs they messed with. It's like they were trying to re-write history with the "new mixes" on the Best Of album - Gone, Discotheque, and SATS all sound too polished to my ears, lacking the raw power of the originals. Which is what I liked about Pop to begin with - that it's both an experimental dance club tribute and a raw rock record.

Am I way off in thinking here that this is similarly part of what kept NLOTH from being even better as an album - that they overthought it and overdid it, not being able to decide which path to remain on? (According to the band, I guess you could say the same about Pop originally, but Pop still sounds more cohesive as an album with its style, image, sounds, lyrics, etc.)
  6. Pop sounds more cohesive than NLOTH, which isn't really saying much to be quite honest...
  7. Everyone can like or not NLOTH but no songs from this album (only snippets) in the first leg of american tour, it seems to me not a good idea. Ideas that they improved to record on that album. And i liked very much certain songs. But anyway........
  8. Moment of Surrender might as well be listed as a full performance at this point.
  9. Cedars of Lebanon has grown to be one of the strongest songs for me.

Top five after 6 years (random order):
    1. Cedars
    2. NLOTH
    3. MoS
    4. WaS
    5. Magnificent
  10. Right now, Cedars is probably my favourite from the album but that will probably change soon. Something about it hit me not so long ago and it has enjoyed some heavy play time since. I always liked the song and rated it high on the album, but something really did grab me.

I think the only U2 album where I have a constant favourite is Achtung Baby.

Same thing has happened to me recently and I have CoL on repeat
  12. Fez-Being Born is one of my favourites of NLOTH.

    Love it.
