1. shit, have they ever said anything about that? i know they were pretty into their sampling in the Pop era but you'd think they'd have acknowledged the source
  2. They acknowledge it in the liner notes for Pop
  3. Yep, one of our "Did you know?".
  4. Taken from the atu2 forum:

Sampling was very big in the day the "Pop" album was recorded, and co-producer Howie B is indeed a samplemeister in both his solo work and his productions. Back in the day when I first got into Howie B's productions, I also got curious about the "inspiration by Naked Funk" credit from "Do You Feel Loved". And yes, there is a Naked Funk sample on the U2 song. Since Naked Funk were on Howie B's label Pussyfoot Records, the now common process of sample clearance which then must have been a more difficult legal matter, could be easily bypassed. Jony Rockstar Lipsey and Jeremy "Jez" Shaw of Naked Funk also worked on many of Howie B's productions and solo records so I can only assume they gave the sample a go so as to gain more public exposure for their own artistic endeavour Naked Funk. Actually, I like their 2nd album "Evolution Ending" much better than their debut "Valium" which contains the song that was sampled.

And it's not like U2 and Howie B have done this just once: the U2 song "I'm Not Your Baby", also from the "Pop" sessions, includes a very recognizable sample of the song "Next" by the band Skylab, from their album "#1", whose members are Mat Ducasse, Masayuki Kudo, Toshio Nakanishi and Howie B himself.
  5. That's not a sample, that's a rearrangement of the almost exact same song. Same riff and main melody, same beat and groove, similar bassline. Incredible, didn't know it. Thanks
  6. i sorta wish i'd never been told about it now ha.

one of my favourite tunes of theirs, and it's kinda killed the magic knowing it's 90% slyly lifted off some obscure triphop record.

I agree, though I still love the song

Same here, although I'm perfectly fine with copying as long as they credit and they improve the original. Do You Feel Loved is a 6750 times better song than this one so I'm ok with it.

    This.
  10. I like how Bono always used to say "I hope one day to speak your language half as good as you speak mine" but never got any better at other languages.

Through the years, he's gotten consistently better at French (I guess owning a house there and spending half of the year or even more has something to do with it) and consistently worse at mostly every other language.
