Is it Friday? I thought the joining limit is Sunday.

we should change that I think. As long as you can download, listen and type a review of the show before Sunday night then you should be able to join. Just PM one of the mods to let them know.

    Sounds good...
  4. 2001-10-10 South Bend (Indiana, USA)

The first concert after the 9/11 massacre. Anything else to say?

    Sound
The sound is perfect. Perfect. The upgrade made by Hodel_05 a few months ago sounds absolutely like heaven to my ears. Period.

    Sweetlist
The setlist on this concert is one of the bests of the Elevation Tour in my opinion. It features the only night of the tour not-opened by Elevation (only that is remarkable), but Beautiful Day is sooo good as opener... People goes crazy when hear that Edge's guitar. Amazing. Until The End Of The World and New Year's Day stay on their usual positions, after Beautiful Day, but since they were one song earlier than usual, they get a tremendous response from the young audience.
Pride was played the 7th song. Played earlier than the usual, also get a nice response from the audience. It was followed by Sunday Bloody Sunday and a more or less common setlist (Kite, Angel, Desire, Staring, Bad, Streets and Haven't Found). Another nice surprise was With Or Without You, as the closer of the main set.
And the ENCORE. Wow, wow, wow. Awesomely opened by Elevation and awesomely followed by Mysterious Ways. One and Walk On finish the show, which ends only with 19 songs.

    Venue&Audience&Performance
The South Bend' Joyce Arena is small. That0s the first point. It can hold about 7000-10000 people. And since it's near (near? I really don't know it sure) a university, most of the tickets were sold to students, young people. That meant an extra-point to the audience usual energy and reactions, etc. The stage's heart, as we have all seen on Slane and Boston DVDs, is huge. And the venue was small. Therefore, there was almost no space betwween the heart tip and the rear seats. That meant an unusual proximity between the band and the audience. Some people has even reported like being in an unplugged show. Those of you who have seen the DVD of this show know what I mean.

The performance is very strong throughout all the concert. The band felt in a great shape, confident and quite happy. The audience, which as said before was formed mostly by young, upbeat people, carried them. Virtually all the songs were performed greatly. The energy and the special emotion of the show made it very special, so the band wanted to play a unique gig.

Even though Bono's voice was not 100% (was it anytime on the Elev Tour??), he makes a remarkable effort to sing good, and in my opinion, he achieves it...

I don't want to nor bored and make you feel bored, so I won't be writing much more. I cannot write more... I have to study some Maths for tomorrow's test

    Conclussions

    -Sound: 10/10
    -Performance: 8/10
    -Audience: 9,5/10

    -Overall: 9/10

That's what we used to say but I agree with Gerard that as long as you PM a mod it makes no odds.

    Spoiler Alert!

Don't read Sergio's post if you wish to stay in the dark and haven't listened to the show yet!!

I've heard it as well. But I still need to give it a fresh listen. Very good show.
  8. Riiiight then. Back in with it.

    1981-02-01 - London, England - Lyceum Ballroom

In the end there were only 2 full reviews of this show, by iTim and Casper (MWSAH). Nate (easports43) seemed to agree with iTim (who incidentally should be congratulated on an excellent in-depth first review)

I listened to the show whilst on holiday so will add any bits below:-

    Summary

    Sound

I know this show is 27 years old nearly, but there is no excuse for the deeply sucky sound that this boot offers. All reviewers agree that this is at absolute best a 2-star recording. I personally found it unlistenable. Whatever you may think of the performance, the sound is a serious drag here.

    Performance

Impossible to assess Adam as the bass is so washed out and fuzzy. Larry excels (does he ever not?). Edge is Edge (although it's not one of his best). Bono sucked rotten eggs. Seemingly couldn't be bothered.
Electric Co. is ok, I Will Follow is rarely bad. Early All Along The Watchtower but it got done much better later on.
    Ignore the rest.

    Overall
Even if the sound had been better there would be little to commend this show. As it is there is nothing to commend it. Deleted off my iPod and iTunes already.

Far better Boy boots are available. Just one example would be 1981-03-06 - Boston, Massachusetts - The Paradise (2). Don't try this one.
  9. 1992-05-22 - Milan, Italy - Forum Di Assago

Reviewed by Gerard, Patrick (U2Starter) and iTim. I've had a listen in my absence too so my thoughts will percolate through here.

    Summary

    Sound

A rare thing. Excellent audience where they augment the recording rather than irritate the listener, although some may find the clapping slightly irksome after a while. Laughable 3-star rating here should go up to 3.5 or even 4 stars. As good as it gets without soundboard etc really. Only slightly muffled in places.
My copy skipped slightly during Bad, but that may just be me.

    Performance

Well, Gerard summed it up very well I think:-

"Every song was nailed. That simple. Full stop"

    11. Yes, ELEVEN of the tracks from Achtung Baby played. Only Acrobat (what a real shame ) missing. Apart from snippets the first eight songs are from the album they were touring. That's confidence in your new material, and it showed. Stunning.

All the songs are great (as you may have guessed!), but the following were mentioned by all reviewers:-

EBTTRT. Full vocal on 'take me higher', not falsetto. Wow.
The Fly. Band outsung by audience. To be heard to be believed.
Bad. Variation within the main song then So Cruel as a snippet. OMG.

    Overall

Get this bootleg. Now. Stop reading, click on the link above and listen. Then come back here and dare to disagree.
For some the best Zoo tour bootleg (yes, that includes you RDS Dublin and Sydney). Definitely the best overall '92 ZooTV bootleg. Others have individually stronger songs, but not the whole package like this.

    Essential

  10. Nice additions Dan!
  11. Ok then, I'm all caught up. Now the last thing, summary for this week (although Sergio's a bit ahead of the game due to nasty computer restricting folks...)
