Sent an e-mail to Bose, they asked for the serial number and shipped a new power pack free of charge in 3 days. Awesome, and it worked to. Service like that is bloody rare.

The 6G technically no different to a touch or a 5G except for cover flow and a different type of material. Space is the same except for the 160GB drive and that's it, and battery life improved by a couple of hours.
It does use different hardware (an utterly-cheap audio chip) which has worse sound. Don't buy one...you'll be sorely disappointed.
Anyway...I do like these from Bose (and the support is pretty good):
