Rock band U2 have written a song in tribute to Paris after the recent attacks that left 130 people dead.
The group were due to play in the French capital in the days after the attacks, but the gigs were cancelled.
They played the first rescheduled show on Sunday evening.
"We stand together with the families of those killed in Paris," said singer Bono, as victims' names were projected on a huge video screen at the AccorHotels Arena.
"We stand together with the families of those killed in San Bernardino."
As an encore, Bono wrapped himself in a tricolour flag and sang a verse of Belgian singer Jacques Brel's "Ne me quitte pas," or `"Don't Leave Me"
U2 will play a second Paris concert on Monday evening.
Before the gig, Bono revealed that the new song, titled Streets of Surrender, contains lines about Paris being the "city of liberty" and having "streets of love and pride".
Bono told CNN he originally started writing the song for Italian singer Zucchero. He recited some of the lyrics:
"Every man has two cities he needs to be. The one he can touch and the one he can't see.
"The one where a stranger's a friend. Every man's got one city of liberty.
"For me it's Paris. I love it. Every time I get lost down these ancient streets, I find myself again.
"You're free, baby, baby, free now and for ever. It's Christmas time, you can decide to forget or to remember.
"You're free, baby, baby. I didn't come here to fight you. I came down these streets of love and pride to surrender. The streets of surrender."

Eagles of Death Metal will perform one song on stage in Paris with U2 tonight, according to reports.
The Californian rockers were performing in the Bataclan Theatre on November 13 when three Islamic State gunmen burst into the concert hall and killed 90 people with 40 more losing their lives elsewhere across the city during the attack.
U2's two gigs scheduled to kick off the following night at AccorHotels Arena in Bercy were rescheduled to Sunday night and tonight.
It had been rumoured that Eagles of Death Metal would join U2 on stage for the opening night although U2 yesterday released a statement announcing that they had another special guest, which was revealed to be Patti Smith.
"We're back in Paris and it's great to be here. Some people have been saying that Eagles of Death Metal will appear on stage with U2 tonight. This is not the case. We have another surprise guest planned for tonight's show."
They did not mention Monday night's show.
However, reports now reveal that the band will appear on stage with U2 for one song tonight.
Last week a source revealed to that Eagles of Death Metal would perform at one of the two Paris concerts.
On the opening night at Paris, Bono told the 17000 strong crowd, "Tonight we are all Parisians. The world is from Paris."
He added, "We stand together with the families who lost their loved ones in Paris. We stand together with families in San Bernardino.
"We stand together with families in Beirut and Istanbul," Bono said before a rousing chorus of Pride In The Name Of Love.
"We stand together before those with false ideologies of the god they serve," he said.
Tonight's show will be televised on HBO.
