Bono took what was already a really great SM performance - who were really on form for those shows - and then elevated it to the next level, it must have blown you and all the other attendees at the venue away especially if it was a surprise.
As you say, Bono took the roof off with his vocals, absolutely no messing about. Bono says all the right things to the audience too, just as he usually does... 'Capital city of Great Britain... Glasgow', and 'It's always summertime In Glasgow' from the night before, you can hear the crowd going nuts when he walks on. What a great night either of those shows must have been. Legendary!
Would really love to see the a scan or pic of the ticket stub if you ever manage to track it down.
