  2. Here we go! The Brew - Control

    Repeat - Immediately kicks the album off with heavy guitar and vocals and a lot of energy. I like this track

    Eject - This track is a little bit slower but just as energetic. The guitar is very catchy, it's very bass-driven. The guitar work in the middle is very nice too.

    Mute - Mute starts off a little bit less energetic than the first two tracks, but speeds up some. Halfway through, I love this track. "I've got this feeling going on, am I right or am I wrong, I have known it all along, I've got this feeling going on" At about three minutes there's a guitar solo, it sounds pretty good. The only complaint I have is that all of the 3 songs so far have had similar abrupt endings.

    Pause - Opens up with drums and a cool guitar riff. The vocals are somewhat haunting and are featured more than the instrumentals a lot of the time. The chimelike guitar reminds me a little of the Edge in places. The other 3 tracks so far are much stronger.

    Shuffle - The opening to this track's guitar reminds me a little of Oasis but heavier. I don't like this track as much, as it's a little repetitive. However, it's by no means bad. It changes up a bit after a couple minutes. There's another guitar solo.

    Fast Forward - I like how this one opens, it's a little bit slower. The vocals are very good, which probably will put this track in my top 3.

    Skip - Skip is very heavier than Fast Forward. It sounds a lot like the first couple tracks. It's a little redundant in my opinion.

    Stop - Stop has a nice acoustic opening and is a very pleasant transition from Skip. The lyrics flow with the acoustic guitar very well, and I didn't hear any drums. It's a very simple song compared to the rest. I like this one a lot.

    Play - Play reintroduces the album's initial heaviness. It opens up with drums and a slow but energetic riff. The solos are getting a little old, and all sounds a little similar throughout the album, but I particularly like the riff on this one. The ending is very odd.

    Rewind - This is a nice closer, that's yet again got a solo in it but at the same time is a little bit more acoustic than the rest of the album.

    Highlights - Fast Forward, Stop, Play

    I liked this a lot, and might come back to at least parts of it. It gets a good 6.5/10.

  4. Never heard of The Brew, but after reading Sergio's preview that they're more well known outside of the UK, I figured that this should be an interesting listen.

    A guitar heavy album, as expected! They do really remind me of Pearl Jam for some reason, in the heavier songs especially.

    I have to admit, nothing really stood out to me until Pause, which is a good song.

    Fast Forward is one of the best songs on the album. Great guitar solo/riff near the end. I like it.

    I can see why Sergio likes them. Boom-boom music is your thing. Guitar music is your thing, ahem. It wasn't bad, but it felt like I've heard it all before, see PJ comparison.

    6/10.

  6. The Brew - Control

    Not my favourite band, not my favourite album, but I just needed something to throw out there that hadn't been heard by most of you - I think that's what this thread is all about.

    There's not much room for innovation on hard rock and blues rock. Everything reminds to something else. That being said, I'm all for bands that keep on rocking in this day and age knowing their roots and paying homage to them. I obviously like this band's main influences like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Who, Pearl Jam, etc. so I'm not bothered by it - but I understand it can get quite repetitive for your guys. Sorry for that

    Repeat is a great album opener, and a good display of most things that are to come: great guitar riffs, pounding drums and anthemic choruses.
    Eject is a little slower, more classic rocker. I have a soft spot for bridges/solos in a different key than the rest of the song (see Californication as a perfect example) so I obviously enjoy this one. Nevertheless, the rest of the song is not brilliant...
    ...Unlike Mute, which starts slow and soon builds up to become the heavier one so far. I've got this feeling gooooooooooooiiiingggg!!!!! The verses riff with the wahwah and whammy are something else. By now, you already have realized these ain't Bob Dylan lyrics - but I'm pretty sure Dylan himself would enjoy the music. The change in rhythm and feel for the final third of the song isbrilliant, and so are the final verses: Your smile is deceiving, your words are all lies; your friend is the joker, a comic book lie. The pedestal you preach from is built up from greed, while mothers are crying for their children to feed! Straight to favs, best song so far.
    Pause starts heavy but then it surprises by introducing some psychedelia and progressive elements which are much welcomed after 3 rockers in a row. We can definitely hear the Pearl Jam influence here, specially from 2:15 on. It's all a big crescendo towards another guitar solo, and back to the slower psychedelic section which ends the song. Move softly through the breeze, take a moment to breathe... Catchy lyrics sung in a way that's totally different to the previous vocal deliveries.
    Shuffle is another standard track that sadly doesn't stand out as it doesn't features anything we didn't hear in the opener trio.
    Fast Forward is an AC/DC rip-off - but this is just as good as AC/DC rip-offs get. Catchy, poppier number. Quite probably the most accesible song in the album together with the second-to-last track. The guitar solo is something else though - all songs feature one to some extent or another, but this one stands out in my opinion as perfectly executed and short enough to keep the interest on it. The Brew are suckers for abrupt song endings as some of you have noted already, but this one really takes the biscuit. Ye bastards!
    Then comes Skip which finally has a good mix between softer verses and heavier choruses - something that's taken them 7 songs to learn! I knew right from the start that her smiiiiiiileeee burns me to dust!
    Stop has a very suitable title. The most quiet song off the album features some of my favourite lyrics (not hard since this band are known for so-so lyrics as I said before). The only bummer is that it is way too short! This could have lasted for at least 40 or 60 more seconds and it would have been perfect. Otherwise it feels like a little acoustic interlude that soon gets lost in the wild...
    Play is a Southern rocker, a very accesible song too. Quite possibly the track that your dad would like the most off these ten songs due to its 80's reminiscences (Van Halen, Bon Jovi?) in the choruses and main riff. It lasts a bit too much - they could have added some of this extra time to the previous number! And well, weren't you enjoying the abrupt endings? Well take this. I could even have taken one of my loathed fade outs instead of this!!
    Rewind is a gem that features all the best parts of the album all in 3m44s. Deep drums, acoustic guitars, a crescendo and an incredible explosive solo and ending. How do I turn back the time? How do I rewind? are some verses to which we all can relate (who doesn't want to go back to a certain moment or time?), but knowing they're dedicated to the memory of a lost son/brother makes me shiver and appreciate this song even more.

    Overall I think this is a very good album. I get what you're saying about guitar solos and the repetitiveness of some songs, and I can't disagree even if I'm who chose it! Haha. Yeah, this guys know how to rock, but they should definitely do more of their variated songs like Pause or Rewind, it would help to keep up the interest.
    Anyway, this album came to me a few months ago due to my hobby/job as a writer in a Spanish music magazine. I had to review and rate it and I didn't know the band by then... This album hooked me up and now I've seen them live twice! And man they rock big time. This is a 7/10 album that could be a 8 if they had worked a bit more on the song endings, and could be a 8'5 if they hired a lyricist Anyway, glad you've enjoyed it.

    Never heard of them before, it was totally new name to me. It's rock album and that's all you need to know before listening it. Rock! So let's rock

    Repeat - Nice first song, heavier rock riff, solo... but nothing special
    Eject - continues in similar way like previous song
    Mute - This is better track than the previous two songs with nice chorus. Stays in heavy way, but more melodic and better song building
    Pause - could you imagine me appreciate less heavy and slower song? lol but this is the example. Nice a little calming down with a little psychedelic feel with slightly heavier middle part... this is great song, the best on album to me
    Shuffle - continues in similar way like the first two songs
    Fast Forward - nice riff which reminds me of Neil Young's Downtown and also rememberable chorus or slogan or how to call it lol. It really goes "Fast Forward"
    Skip - good song but can't shake off the feeling that I've heard it before... at someone else...
    Stop - slow song with acoustic guitar, not my favourite
    Play - back on rock show But not my kind of rock, some country or bluegrass feel in it, which I'm not really fan of
    Rewind - first half is slow with acoustic guitar,then nice solo which leads to heavier and faster part of the song. Nice closing song


    Summary: Not bad album and I enjoyed the listen but after first listen I really couldn't remember any riff or melody. So I needed to listen again and found some good stuff. You could definitely hear influences of old or newer classic rock bands, but in rock music it's always like this. There are some stand out tracks (see in my top tracks), the rest is a little repetitive and forgettable. The songs are not bad, but just flow away. I will definitely return to some songs, or whole album as background (I like some heavy stuff as background sometimes). Thank for this, Sergio, we don't have many really rock albums to review here

    Once again i didn t know the band ... when i read "British electronic duo " i expected something that i don t like ...i wasn t that bad i thought at first . It isn t my kind of music , but it was ok . Some songs were a bit boring to me , but i enjoyed some

    An album very rocker ! i found some things of Pearl Jam during some songs . Sometimes sounds repetitive some songs . I love the Control Thematic and the connectionbetween the name of the songs , that was very interesting
