  1. Hey everyone.

    I just checked out The Edge's brand-new signature Fender Stratocaster.

    http://www.fender.com/the-edge-strat/0112702706.html#q=the+edge&start=1

    However, we all know Edge also likes to play Gibson guitars, notably the Gibson Explorer.

    So has The Edge ever had his own signature Gibson guitar model?

    Or does he exclusively endorse Fender?

    Anyone know?

  2. Pretty sure this is Edge's first time having a signature instrument. Wouldn't be out of the question with Gibson though, I would think. The Explorer as well as his gold one (UTEOTW) are iconic.

  4. Only Adam had some signature bass models (Warwick), Edge had no signature whatsoever - until now.

    Quite sure several companies (Gibson, Gretsch, Fender) asked him over the years more than once. The fact he finally opted for Fender makes sense in my eyes: the Strat is the one model he plays in various versions and that always has given many possibilities and that in the end makes it possible to play each and every U2 Song in some way. Plus: Fender in Corona isn't far from his California home and he has been in the Fender boards for awhile and the Irish Falcon Telecaster they made for Bono might have added some extra interest of Edge, seeing how they really make custom and signature guitars.

    I pretty much guess for Edge it has a lot to do with: if he really feels it, then he's doing it. Probably only Fender was able to provide him with all the know-how he needed, all the specials he asked for and the family-like atmosphere, that makes such things possible. Quite sure with Fender he really feels this is HIS guitar.
  5. Well, he and Bono are Fender board members. Bono has a signature Gretsch Irish Falcon. Gretsch is also owned by Fender.

    So I think it's unlikely for Edge to have a Gibson signature model.

    Maybe Bono asked for another Gretsch Irish Falcon and instead they pushed him over to Fender? Who knows. Bono gave the Gretsch away to Adam Bevell, remember?

    But Bono doesn't need any more guitars now

    Gretsch might be owned by Fender, but they operate on their own. Like Converse is owned by Nike or Bugatti is owned by Volkswagen. I don't really think Edge's signature has something to do with Bono's Gretsch. Maybe a lot more with the Telecaster, so Edge could take at look at the production process, see how much Bono got involved etc.
  7. watch out, guitar noob incoming what about those music rising guitars he used? weren't those INDIRECTLY signature guitars (the multi coloured ones - used for the magnificent video, I believe, and the latest tour - as well as the black one with the white music rising sigil), did anyone else play them??
  8. I think the only custom thing on these was the color/design. No technical stuff, that makes a signature item. A standard model so to say.

    Edge auctioned most of them for Music Rising, and I guess, the buyers shelfed them instead playing them.
    These were unique special ones, no series made of them, handful extra-colored body decks.

    Edit: they were made in 2005/06, he has used them since every now and them, he probably just liked the color of those he kept.

    I also checked out Adam's signature bass model on the Warwick website.

    But Adam also plays Lakland basses. So I wonder why Adam went with Warwick and left Lakland out in the cold.

    Fits his tone style.
