Top job. We'll look forward to it
  3. 1990-01-06 - Rotterdam, Netherlands - Sportpaleis Ahoy
    -----------------------------------

    The Recording: 4/5

    >> Positive…

    - One of my favorite audience recordings.
    - The audience was into it from the start of the set to the end.
    >> Negative…

    - As with many recordings, Bono's vocals overpower Larry's Drums and Adam's bass.

    The Show: 5/5

    - I've always had a fondness of the pairing of Streets and I Will Follow. Don't know why, but they seem to work extremely well together.

    - The last performance of The Unforgettable Fire. This version had such power and emotion, one of the best live versions of one of my all time favorites. I would love to hear it on the next tour

    - God Part II was amazing. They mastered this song, and I don't think I've heard a bad version of it. As with TUF, I would love to see this one in the setlist for the next tour.

    - Bono used some very interesting snippets in this show, but they fit well.

    - Bono's voice was spot on. Which is truly amazing considering they had to postpone these gigs do to "some pretty psychedelic germs having their Annual General Meeting" in his throat.

    - Van Dieman's Land was good as always. Edge is a very talented songwriter.

    - Love Rescue Me completely bores me. I've not really heard a version of this song that "Moved" me.

    - You can't go wrong with 40 ending the show. The only song that could maybe top it as an ender is Bad. And that's a big maybe.

    Overall:
I think this is the best show we've listened to. I loved it, as with all of the Rotterdam shows. This show really epitomizes what Lovetown was all about. If you've never heard a Lovetown show, grab this one. It sums up the tour in one show. My only complaint is that I would've liked to have seen Bad in the set. Other than that, it was a great listen, as it was when I listened to it months ago. I think that Lovetown is U2's most underrated tour, but quite possibly the best in terms of performance. It was simple, but great. You can tell the band was working hard to fine-tune their live shows, which would payoff during Zoo TV.
  4. Count me in again! Another one of the best ZooTV bootlegs.
  5. I'm in again too. It's such a great show!
  6. 1990-01-06 - Rotterdam, Netherlands - Sportpaleis Ahoy

    Sound:

Nice recording, very clear. When listening I felt almost like being there among the fans. Great atmosphere

    Performance:

Streets - LT versions were better than JT, in my opinion. More aggresive singing from Bono.
He did good falsettos at the end. It's not 26-12-89 but nice ending anyway

I Will Follow - Played slower than usuall, I like it faster. But again nice improvisation with
    falsetto singing

ISHFWILF - Crowd singing along with Bono, amazing. But Bono's singing contained too much
kermit. I velcomed the omisiion of Exodus. It's on every version from LT and JT
    tour I've heard.

MLK - I agree with others, one of the best performances. I was OK with the crowd singing

Unforgettable Fire - Best versions come from LT Tour, Bono didn't have problems with
falsetto parts. This shouldn't have been the latest performance, I could
easily imagine Bono singing it on Zoo TV

God Part II - I've heard better, Bono was out of breath a bit, had some problems.

Desire - Good version, mostly because of snippets. I expected Edge to do some solos like
he used to but he didn't do any, I was dissapointed

All Along The Watchtower - They mastered this song during LT tour, it has gone through
changes and sounded best during latter shows like this one

All I Want Is You - On this song I didn't like the strong crowd presence. They were
screaming yooooou during slow instrumental part before it came into the
song and they destroyed the atmosphere

Van Diemen's Land - Good as always, nothing special to pick up there.

Bullet the Blue Sky - Played faster to album version but this was lightweight, uninspired
performance. I like Bullet live but this version didn't do it for me

Running to Stand Still - Again, a song which I could stand without crow singing at top of
    their lungs

She's A Mystery To Me - Very nice surprise, but I'd prefer it without female singers. Bono
    sang it beautifuly

Angel of Harlem - This song is complete only with B.B.King orchestra, everything after LT
were just faint performances, compared to this

When Love Comes To Town - Another one, which should have always been played with
B.B.King. Zoo TV versions were just mistake

Love Rescue Me - I've never been fan of this song, I just passed along it without notice

WOWY - Nimble version. There were some sings of Edge's improvistaions and solo, but he
didn't expand it. And where are the snippets...

Pride - OK performance, inferior to album version as always.

40 - Best show closer, and crowd singalong, especially for amazing dutch crowd.

    Overall:

I Love this Tour. It's overally U2 at their best.- performances and setlists too and this was good representation of it. Although there are better LT shows regarding performance this
bootleg as a whole is one of the best Lovetown recordings

    Crowd

Crowd, as usual on Dutch concerts, is AWESOME. Anything else to add.

    Sound

Sound is solid and pretty good if you ask my opinion. I love that Rotterdam nights, although 01-10 sounds even better. It sounds fantastic for a 20 years old recording. The band is captured greatly, as well as the crowd is. Overall it is clearely 4 stars, but "subjectively", taking that 20 years factor, it deserves a 4.5 IMO.

    Performance

What else must I add to the rest of reviews? Lovetown is astonishing. Raw, simple and virgin, but awesome.
Credits on individual performances go to MLK (awesome vocals, dear Mr. Hewson!!), of course to Unforgettable Fire (last performance so far, and probably [please God don't let my words be true] last performance ever). Also Desire and With Or Without You make appereance here, and Running To Stand Still is pretty amazing... I also liked Streets, although the performance itself was not special. Crowd always goes mad on Streets, therefore I love it

    Summary[/b]

Pretty awesome show, even though (as Gerard said I think) it is a bit less powerful than 9th and 10th nights, which are among the best concerts on the Lovetown tour. Anyway, this show doesn't lack of anything. Sound, crowd and performance are all very good.

    Overall 8/10

If it has to be the last one ever, it's at least a very good one...
  10. hey dudes. I was going to do an iPod video of this show to spice the bootleg round table up slightly but. . . I converted the video and all was well but the audio was very dissapointing and I don't think that seeing the show on screen compensates for well below par audio when we are reviewing all aspects of the show including the sound. I do promise an iPod video shortly though.

Yep, at least we're not left with one choke-full, messed up last performance, it's a last performance to be remembered
