  1. in my opinion they are ok for residents concerts in Las Vegas, someone said they are the new u2, craps
  2. I definitely think at one point they certainly were poised to become something big. That all stopped when their second album (albeit awesome) was a huge departure from what made them big in the first place, and then their third album took forever and was even more of a departure.

    The Killers were also part of a movement that was blooming around that time, the sort of post-pop-punk synth/new wave revival. The Killers weren't able to move away from the movement that made them big without losing their notoriety. That's the difference between so many bands and U2, they aren't able to pave their own way and evolve while gaining more and more fans. For most it goes the opposite way.

    Almost as ridiculous as when Bono himself said Franz Ferdinand were the next U2 .
  3. The Killers definitely still have the musical potential to be something very big, but as individual band members each of them have different motivations for being a part of The Killers. This becomes really apparent when Brandon does his solo material while the rest of the group tends to rest with their families on their own. This isn't to say that either of these approaches are wrong, but the fact Brandon does release solo material means he can see himself outside the context of the other members from a musical standpoint. I honestly think the members of U2 cannot see themselves existing in a musical context without each other. I think this is what separates U2 and the other historical names from the rest of the mix. If The Killers as a whole decided to cancel their tour, maybe I would say they could still be bigger than they are now. But the fact they are choosing to continue shows me they are not all on the same page here.

    You and your namesake both make good points, but I wouldn't say Sam's Town was a huge departure or meant anything negative in their career. It was a huge success when it came out, and it became even more appreciated among fans and general audience when Day&Age (the real turning point) came out.

  7. Sounds almost improvised or written 10 minutes before the show. Which is not bad in itself, many great songs have been born that way... It's just not really exciting to me as it is now.

That's all I could find right now hopefully more past audio from then will show up one of these days. When I searched google there was links to shows from Barcelona and Hop farm but the links don't work now. I hope maybe someone has audio from those shows and will upload them somewhere someday.

Don't know if anyone here saw this or not, apparently they had two 10 year anniversary shows for Sams Town at the Sams Town Casino in Las Vegas - played through the whole album both nights with some of the usual hits played as an encore. Awesome stuff, Sams Town is by far my favorite album by them
