Yeah, but which good government came out of a coup d'etat, no matter what good intentions they proclaim?

Sure. To be replaced later by the leader of the "freedom fighters"

So, what's your solution? Just accept Erdogan's dictatorship?

I wish I had one. But hey... I'm an American. We might as well as stick to the tried and true plan. Arm the rebels to overthrow the dictator now, so we can arm the rebels again in 20 years to overthrow the rebel leader who becomes the new dictator. History teaches nothing and we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. Don't worry... our elite think tank in Washington will decide on a plan that they insist is right for us all.

In this case there weren't even any rebels. Turkey has a long history of military coups. The military in the past also claimed to represent secular values but after all the executions and chaos settled in, the new president was as theocratic as the old dictator.
Every strong democracy was not born out of coups but from respect of institutions and civil liberties. The people of Venezuela is fighting hard through the civil institutions (that Maduro is trying to undermine) to overthrow their terrible government. This shows that there are other ways.
