well this is infact one of my favorite songs EVER!!! it's so deep... when I hear this song, it literally brings tears to my eyes... that's how deep it goes in me... you may find it a little exagerated, but that's how i feel...
To me, this song is a prayer. As simple as that. after seeing so much bad in this world, so much fanatism for the wrong ideas... when I hear this song, I see not Bono, not Mirrorballman, not The Fly, not Macphisto... what I see is a simple human being asking for peace, asking for faith, asking for YOU to get off your knees and open your eyes... because the path you've choosen is the wrong one, and he tells you: how far are you willing to go to proove you're right?? at what cost?? and he also asks you who is it you have to proove it to??? yourself?? GOD??? your peers???

this I believe makes a closure to the whole theme of the song, is the closure of a prayer...
I really dont know how to express the way I interpret the song...
at a show in NY, during the Elevation tour I believe, he says: this song is about some religious fanatics that we grew around, and that now you have to live around or the fear of living around...
and sincerely, LOVE is BIG, and it really is bigger than us, because love is forgiveness, love is caring, love is FREEDOM, YOU are love...
and what he says is you can't use LOVE for the wrong cause... because your cause follows your own needs, and that's blasfemy or selfishness...
I believe, Bono here prays to God, then he talks to this "religious nuts" he keeps saying don't use the name of LOVE in vain, it's bigger than you and your cause, it's even bigger than us...
I dont know if this makes any sense to any of you, I hope it does... I didn't have enough time to write it down...
