1. Yeah, I have to say as soon as I heard it that I thought 'oh, here's the song about Ali for this one' and that's quite alright with me!
  2. From the lyrics we've heard, it's just seems to be an experienced Song for Someone. I'm fine with a song for Ali and I don't think Bono should be criticised for writing her one. I'm just not 100% sold on the sound just yet.
  3. Here's a head scratcher. Is there any way that this album will be worse than SoI? I mean if a bunch of these songs were in the can (albeit, unfinished) back when they were writing/recording SoI, chances are there were many conversations had when they said "let's save that for the next one".

    Was SoI the appetizer?

Many people said basically the same thing back in 1991 (hindsight and a deeper analysis of the lyrics says otherwise, though, but that was a very common first reaction to MW, UV, RT, WH, ZS, etc).

I still think SOI is one of the best albums they've made (top 5 for me). It'd be fantastic if SOE manages to be at that level and I hope it does, but I wouldn't be surprised if SOI is the best of the pair.
  5. Where are people deciphering all of these lyrics? From that freakin' beach clip? Reserve judgement until you can hear the music through something better than a potato. Sheesh.

Not to mention Bono's been writing shallow lyrics alongside meaningful ones ever since Touch was in the same set as The Ocean, or since Babyface was on the same album as The Wanderer. Don't get your undies in a bundle.

    True

  9. Also note that few lyrics have already been leaked before and are listed in the opening post. Quite some good lyrics I must say!

Yes. I remember a lot of head scratching from some of my "U2 crew" over AB. I think I was the only one that welcomed it after my first time through "The Fly". The first time "baby" was ever used in a U2 lyric, and they went crazy making up for lost time.

I don't get the worse than SOI thing, either, but to each his own.
