1. 1997-09-20 - Reggio Emilia, Italy - Festival Site

    Sound:

Band sounds quite distant, but clear. Shame that it isn't clear that you're listening to concert with 150 000 people...

    Performance:

When you got 150 000 people, the biggest concert of single band ever you expect something special you expect the band to give everything into performance, but it seemed to me as they didn't. It hasn't filled up my expectations.I'd say the performance was average.Maybe they'd been with their minds in Sarajevo yet, maybe my opinion on this gig was partly infulenced by not so good sound, I don't know. A song which, in my opinion, stood out from average was One. Really nice and unusuall version.I'd go as far as saying that it was one of the best live renditions of this song.
  2. Count me in too, Gerard. I don't know yet what I will choose, but the show seems good

if you've got 2 weeks and a capable media player then go for both I say. Added
  4. Not heard anything from Reclinerman, Sergio or Nate about the Reggio show. Anything coming guys? We can take some late entries given I'm behind on summaries and we have a 2-week period for this boot.

I'm gathering my notes together. Will post in a few.
  6. I'll post mine, but it will be a while. Don't worry about me, okay.
  7. Count me in for East Rutherford.

I'll download the video tonight, bootleg tomorrow.

  8. Reggio Emilio Popmart

    Sound

As pointed out before, it's not 5-stars-worth, even though it sounds good. As a nice and remarkable point, I have to say that I had this one rated as Good>Very Good Soundboard on my old Hard Disk That shows that the show actually sounds very good. But not 5 stars. The completely worst point for me is that, with the biggest crowd ever seen on a U2 concert, most of that audience sound is lost. It could have be great. Anyway, 4 stars is more cappropiate

    Performance

I quite liked it. Very good mood, both from band and audience, and almost every song has good performance. A few of them are absolutely nailed. This are Mofo, Please, WTStreetsHNN and of course One. The complete highlight of the night. I liked the kareoke also (the audience loved it! Famous and "stereotipycal" italian song).

    Overall

Even though there are better Popmart concerts (Sarajevo, Santiago, Leeds, Miami), this is worth Grey-Monday-Evening listening. Did you catch me? It's a good upbeat concert, both audience and band are having a good time and they want us to spend it with them.
  9. Popmart Reggio

    SOUND

I agree with Sergio, it's not really 5 stars. I Would say it's a 4 or 4.5. I was disappointed because the crowd was lost. Some of the early 1st leg Vertigo shows (Anaheim, San Diego, etc.) seemed to have a bigger crowd. As Gerard said, it sounds more like 20, 000. This was one of those shows that sounded like it was recorded from the very back of the Stadium, and had a very similar quality as our first round table show (UF Tour - Phoenix).

    PERFORMANCE
    Ups
    - Mofo was completely nailed
    - One was decent. Missed the extended guitar from ZOO TV as Dan stated earlier.
    - HMTMKMKM is one of the best live song from this era. They always seemed to nail it and this show was no exception.
    - EBTTRT was good as always. I think this song gets better with every tour.
    - I was surprised that Bono's voice was as strong as it was. One of the rare Popmart shows where his voice didn't drag.
    - Miami continues to grow on me. Me and Gerard always used to say that we hated it. I'm sorry Gerard, I've crossed to the dark side.
    - Please/Streets is a lethal combination. Only one could top it, and that would be Bad/Streets.
    - Great crowd participation during WOWY.
    - Love the rare, Popmart versions of MLK.
    Downs
    - Disappointed with Last Night On Earth. It was quite boring, which is rare for me to say, as I love this song.
    - Edge's karaoke was slow and a little sluggish.

    OVERALL

Pretty good show, but there are plenty of others that I prefer. (Mexico, Leeds, Sarajevo, Miami, Tel-Aviv, Santiago, just to name a few.) That might just be a matter of personal preference, but I think others will agree that while this show is decent, it's not one of the top notch Popmart shows. If you can get past the sound, then by all means, grab it.
  10. Gosh, I thought that it would be this Sunday - next Tuesday the time limit...now I'm confused...I'm not a big PopMart fan, so it wasn't a big breakdown, but anyway...sorry guys.

No bother. You in for the East Rutherford show on video or audio?
  12. I wish I had it on video...so it's only audio I can get now.
Do we have 2 weeks for it? Because this weekend will be buzzed up...
