    That Chicago tribune article is especially interesting. I was aware that Trump has actually expressed support for a more inclusive toward LGBTQ platform than traditional Republican policy...but had never stopped to compare comprehensively some of the policy promises that Trump's made that are indeed similar to Obama's in many places.

    As encouraging as that is to ponder, I do still fear for the reaction toward minorities that a lot of emboldened Trump supporters who actually did buy into his inflammatory persona will attempt to carry out (or have already threatened to carry out). Clearly not all of them are racists - I have family members who voted for Trump and they are very kind people! - but the racial division of this election result still concerns me.

    There is much to be determined. There is much to be worked out. The future is uncertain, for sure. But it is what is. We have to have hope. We have faith. He hasn't even taken office yet.He wasn't my choice, but he is the next Commander-In-Chief. I'll reserve my judgment until this time next year when has been in office almost a year. I can only hope the dialog since Tuesday (his speech, Hillary's speech, Pres. Obama's speech and the meeting today) is genuine and not a ruse. It's all we can do.

  5. Just thought I'd post a bit from the article above in the BBC news, I'd describe this as very encouraging. Trump also expressed how he is looking forward to dealing with Obama in the future and Obama said he'd been encourgaed by the meeting. Might not count for much but surely a bit more positive than perhaps some stuff we've been hearing.

    Positivity is what we all need. It's what Hillary knows we need. It's what President Obama knows we need. And I believe, it's what the President-elect knows it's what we need.
  7. I'm trying to understand how the polls were so wrong in the election. It turns out that they were not wrong, as 538 says. Hillary Clinton is on her way to win the popular vote by 4.7% margin, like the polls were showing and this is even a bigger margin than Obama's in 2012.
    The issue is that those votes were not distributed in the swing states, but rather in red states like Utah and Arizona that she couldn't win, so she lost the electoral vote.

  9. That's right, she underperformed in the swing states, but overperformed in states that Trump was going to win anyway.
