I think it would be pretty cool to be releasing a new album 30 years after something so monumental. I do agree that it would be compared though.
That said, I'd say that the whirlwind that came with releasing The Joshua Tree was U2's end of "innocence" and definitely began a time of experience. I wonder did they decide to wait for SOE because of this anniversary?

Can't agree more about beginning a time of experience. I would love them to bring out something really special in 2017. I think at u2 levels it's such fine lines, i hate that songs like crumbs from your table, mercy, when I look at the world even New York are ignored by the general public all great songs, even trip, and exit won't be well recognised of one of there best albums, so it's a tough job but a couple of strong singles would lead the way followed by some really deep and hopefully guitar heavy,(the emphasis being on the heavy) album tracks.
