Joshua Tree Tour 2017
Legs (3): Leg 1 - North America, Leg 2 - Europe, Leg 3 - The Americas
Shows: 52
  1. I don't think that albums really need a nostalgia tour. For me it's like going back to an other era, without the excitement of that era.
If they wanna celebrate the anniversary of a album/tour, I prefer they do it like they did with Achtung Baby in 2011. Only with some more song's they haven't played for a long time, or at all. But, if they wanna do stuff like this, it can only be Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree. No other album is as iconic or ''big'' as those two.
  2. I am also of the opinion that no album needs a nostalgia tour. Not Joshua Tree, not Thriller or whatever other album.
But now they're doing it, and they're flirting with yet another nostalgia tour for Achtung Baby, so who the hell knows, maybe they'll tour in 10 years only to remember the Beautiful Days, Elevations, Vertigos, etc.
3 years ago I would have said no way they succumb to nostalgia, but lo and behold.

Nobody said they were "flirting" with a nostalgia Achtung tour... It was just Daniel Lanois saying he thinks they might do it. Let's not get ahead!

    U2Valencia will confirm soon.
  5. I still can't understand why the band are getting so much criticism for this tour. It's incredible, they've been going for more than 40 years, toured every album they've ever wrote and played a fair amount of the album on the tour, they take an opportunity to celebrate one of there best albums for a couple of months and get criticised for it. Whatever reason people think they're doing it for at the end of the day the band are going out a nd playing shows, that's a big part of there job, at the same time they are putting the finishing touches to a new album which will no doubt get toured also and where the tour will feature probably most of the album. There isn't really any logic to the arguments against the tour, and it's bizarre why any u2 fan wouldn't want to see the tour unless they don't like the album.

    100% agreed

"Finishing touches" and "no doubt" aren't the safest concepts to include in your rant about U2 y'know?
  9. It's not as black and white as you put it.
Let's not forget that they decided to do the nostalgia act instead of finishing a new album, delaying it indefinitely on top of past delays.
I don't want U2 to "just play shows", like any washed up band. I want them to make a new album that is fresh and relevant for these times, not living in the past. Radiohead did it. I don't see them touring with OK Computer songs only and fans being happy about it.

Did they do it instead of finishing the new album though? Or was it maybe still not ready? We're all surely used to u2 album delays by now and SOE hasn't actually taken too long compared to the last couple of waits. Of course I want to see u2 bring out a new album that is up there with there best stuff and touring it but even if we accept that this tour has delayed SOE being release it hasn't cancelled the release altogether we are still going to get new u2 music and I'm 100% sure a tour to support it. This JT tour along with the possible achtung baby tour should definitely be seen as bonuses, we're not going to get any less u2 albums released as a result and we're not going to miss out on any tours to promote future releases either, these anniversary tours are additional to what was already on the schedule. If they bring out SOE and fail to tour it or barely play a song from it live then I'd have to eat my words but I really can't see that.

Fair enough, but I really do believe SOE will be ready not long after the JT tour and even more confident that following its release it will be toured. Might be setting myself up to look stupid but that's how I see things just now.
