Fair enough, but I really do believe SOE will be ready not long after the JT tour and even more confident that following its release it will be toured. Might be setting myself up to look stupid but that's how I see things just now.

Yeah, you might be confusing hope with belief, but anyway. I got to admit I'm mostly with César on this issue: they were (supposedly) about to finish SOE and then they suddenly realized they had to do this TJT revival... the perfect excuse to postpone an album that's already 2 years and a half late (remember we first heard about it through Bono's statement the evening that SOI was released out of the blue, and even back then it was supposed to come "soon"... haha).

SOE is being reworked and a song or two will make it on this version of the Joshua tree tour.

Let's not forget that they decided to do the nostalgia act instead of finishing a new album, delaying it indefinitely on top of past delays.
I don't want U2 to "just play shows", like any washed up band. I want them to make a new album that is fresh and relevant for these times, not living in the past. Radiohead did it. I don't see them touring with OK Computer songs only and fans being happy about it.

Well I suppose it's partly hope and belief, im quite happy at the moment though looking forward to the twickenham show, i want to hear SOE but I'm not in a rush. I know bono said it was going to be out soon but in reality it took 4 years between HTDAAB and no line on the horizon and it took 5 years between HTDAAB and SOI, at the moment we're looking at it being possibly 3 years by the time SOE is released so that's an improvement. This JT tour maybe was the excuse to postpone the album but do you not think the band are still working on the album? I don't believe it's just sitting there ready, the band must want to still complete it in some way. I suppose to sum up everything and get to my point it seems like people are using the frustration at the SOE delay to criticise this tour when in reality there is no direct link between the two, if u2 don't want to release an album they won't, we wouldn't have the SOE album to listen to right now regardless of whether this tour was taking place or not. So at risk of repeating myself we're getting a tour of one of there greatest albums in its entirety and we're getting SOE when it's ready along with as I said a likely tour instead of just getting SOE and the tour. We're not missing out on anything we're getting extra or as I said earlier a bonus tour.
Originally posted by ahn1991:U2's performances in Vegas and Dreamforce could have fit the timeline for an early 2017 release followed by a mid 2017 tour. I think Trump winning the election forced them to delay the release for marketing reasons, but they had already made touring commitments to Live Nation and booked venues for early 2017 by the time he had won, so what would have been the first leg of the SOE Tour turned into The Joshua Tree Tour.
Plus, information from the band members have been super inconsistent with each other and other producers who worked on the album and claimed to have heard completed tracks. Some sources say they've heard completed tracks, some say they have 50 song ideas, some say they are working on a final track listing, some sources have a final track listing, etc.
It's kind of the opposite scenario with Songs of Ascent. With SOA we only had vague information coming from the band, leading us to rightfully assume it was scraped. In this case there's an overabundance of information coming from several sources inside and outside of the band, so I'm willing to bet this thing is done.

Yes I do and that's exactly what's wrong about it. It was supposed to be almost finished by the time they wrapped up the I&E Tour in Paris, and they wanted to canalize all that "ecstatic energy" into the few remaining touches of the album and bring it "bottled for us soon". Literally.

I accept your point about the album supposed to be finished and I do get the frustration to a point about the album delay. I've said in the past I'd love them to release stuff more regularly but ive accepted they don't. Would you not agree though that regardless of whether or not we were getting the JT tour we still wouldn't have SOE right now? Therefore making the JT tour additional and not taking the place of it.
