1. What year is the one that The Edge used from about 83 through 02? I know Blackie was a 79 and the sunburst he used to use was a 57.
  2. The all black Strat was a 1979. The Sunburst used for Pride during recent tours is believed to be a 1959, per Dallas .

The Edge has had a few Black and White Strats. The 2005 era Guitar World magazine refers to a 1973.

There are backups for each. Meaning automatically, there are at least two of each guitar - usually of similar colour and vintage. There are exceptions. The backup to the 1966 red Gibson SG is a Pelham Blue 1966 SG.

Plus in some case there will be one tuned to E flat and one to E.

I'm not coughing at you. You were just trying to help.
  6. This seemed a little to specific for generael chat. The sunburst I was refereing to was the one he used to use on ISHFWILF.
  7. The exact years of his black Strats are really all one big mystery lol! Some say 1979, 1976, 1973, etc. And then there's the possibility of Edge changing out stuff like pickguards which mixes up things even more. Hell the man himself might have lost track by now.

In regards to the sunburst Strat which he used for ISHF during the '80s and during some Zoo TV shows, as far as I can tell this is the same one he uses nowadays for Pride.

Edge being totally happy with his sound on the upcoming album is first and foremost no matter what guitars he uses, but I'd love to see him start using Strats again for new material. A ton of my favorite Edge riffs are traditionally played on a Strat.

  8. Off topic, but his best tone evar was the les paul that he gave away.

I currently own a Hofner Verythin Standard -not a special guitar, but a special gift from my grandfather- and I'd like to buy the best Strat you know. Which one would it be?

I specially like that Red/White one from Mark Knopfler. It's absolutely beautiful, and Mark Knopfler is my idol..
  10. You fingerpick?

Fenders are not quite worth their price nowadays...you can fnd some very good stuff by a lower price. Or get a cheap one and good pick ups. Fenders are good if you are going vintage, and I mean pre 65.
  12. Get yourself a nice Classic Series '70s Strat in black, put some new pickups in it like CS69s, and you're ready to rock Edge style. That Knopfler Strat looks gorgeous, though. Best advise is to try out a bunch of different guitars for yourself and go with the one that sounds and feels the best, the one which "speaks to you".

BTW, the comment about the only good Fenders being vintage models pre-1965 is absurd. The stuff they make nowadays is outstanding. Even the MIM Fenders have improved much over for the past few years. Of course there are bad apples here and there, but for the most part their quality and craftsmanship is excellent.
