Joshua Tree Tour 2017
Legs (3): Leg 1 - North America, Leg 2 - Europe, Leg 3 - The Americas
Shows: 52
  1. Then the plan is to do the Songs of Experience tour with the same staging?
Yeah, the Experience and Innocence tour. It'll invert a lot of things, but it's got the same basics. We've got some incredible staging ideas, but it's basically the same language as the last tour.
  2. Very nice interview! Love an interviewer who knows his shit. Interesting bits:

I realized the real influence was probably Flannery O'Connor, so I developed this character called the Shadow Man and I'm managing to step into the shoes of the Shadow Man without any self-harm. It's quite a character.

I'm really enjoying changing the odd lyric. "I first saw her face high on a desert plane." That's a beautiful change. In "New Year's Day" I sing, "It's true, it's true, the people break through." Little tiny little things that keep me close to the songs.

To switch gears, are you still unable to play guitar?
Yeah. I can play sitting down if the neck is pointing up in the air, and I can play with three fingers standing up. Dallas Schoo, Edge's guitar tech, is encouraging me to pick up slide guitar.

The problem is we have 15 songs and to get them down to 12. We don't like long players. The actual track listing is not set yet, but we have some proper, proper fuck-off songs. "Little Things That Give You Away" is one of them.
You're thinking early 2018 if you had to guess?
I'd like it before then, but don't listen to me.

You know the best part about this? He's ENJOYING it.
  5. Quick question -
approximately what time has U2 been taking the stage?
I'm debating attending the Pittsburgh show, but it will involve a 3 to 4 hour drive home depending on traffic, and was hoping to have an idea what I'd be looking at time wise. Thanks.
(I already have tickets for Philly, so Pittsburgh is a second show. Hence the internal debate. )

Around 8.40pm? I think it's around then, give or take a few minutes.

With a 3 hour drive home wou'd get home at around 2 AM I think.
  8. I love Dallas for being a good friend, and make Bono feel good about trying to play slide quitar.

You only live once. Do it. Ive done many crazy trips like that for PJ and went to work next morning. Who knows if they'll ever play some of these songs again.
  11. i'm listening to the Seattle show right now - BD after TJT is not such a bad choice, after all. Bono may be out of breath sometimes, but bis singing throughout the show is great, imho. And I like it that he lets the music do the talking lost of the times.
