What about the zoo tv era, a lot of people including myself put that as there best but during the first 3 legs there was very little happening with the setlist. It wasn't really until zooropa came out they started to mix things up and even then for the last leg it was the same sets every night.
In the ZooTV era they were at the peak of their creativity. It's not the same thing to tour the same old songs from 30 years than touring with 8, 9, 10 new songs, new concepts and with excellent performances every night. If they played the JT and AB songs like in those years, I wouldn't be complaining, but they aren't (understandable, as they are getting older, but you have to compensate this with some variation, new songs, or at least something)
  2. As the BBC said beautiful day / elevation / vertigo whipped through by the band as quickly as possible Is the equivalent of a driv-thru happy meal .
Keeps the 1 show tourists happy (maybe) but fans like me who have done +30 shows I would rather some deeper context and thought into the back catalogue
  3. It's funny, Vertigo was really good during the Vertigo tour, ever since then I feel like the tempo is too fast and they burn through it quickly, along with Elevation in order to get energy from the audience..... I get it, they are big songs, for a Big room like the ones they play in, and I agree they don't need to reach for deep tracks (although Miss Sarajevo, and UV aren't well known tracks), they can reach for a bit more.....
  4. I think maybe the bigger issue (not for me but the people complaining) is the songs they are playing as opposed to the lack of variation. I don't believe there would as many complaints if instead of elevation, beautiful day, vertigo and Miss Sarajevo we had the likes of zoo station, Heartland, discotheque and acrobat each and every night, would that be a fair point?

Yes. Many people here have also said that you don't even need deep cuts like that. AIWIY, 11 O'Clock, Gloria, UTEOTW, Kite will do just fine.

To an extent; we are on a U2 fan site with many going to multiple dates, some in the same city, so even if you had the third part full of 1980s b-sides, if there wasn't rotation it would get boring. Probably are own fault really.

If all they played were those songs, then I think there would still be complaining.... (they can't please everyone, and should do the show they feel are their best), however I think as us fans who now with all of this technology, who now can watch or listen to every show.... guess the variation is the biggest issued (at least for me).

If you look at their tours of the last 30 years, they have always stayed with a structured show, it's not like they started out playing random shows everynight, even when there was no video screens, it's just we're watching more closely now and their catalog is getting larger and a lot of songs that are know, get ignored for the "crowd favorites."

Also, the theme of the final sections of the last 3 tours are almost identical, and I know that it gives Bono a change to thank everyone, and to get people to focus on his One Campaign..... I suppose I would like a fresh approach to this segment.
  8. Is this the first tour since Achtung Baby came out that they didn't play UTEOTW? Maybe they skipped it during the PopMart tour, I gotta check on that.

UTEOTW was a regular for Popmart, Elevation and I+E. It was played on several Vertigo and 360 shows.

Well I think that is a fair point. I'm finding it hard to criticise because I had the perfect night last night, being there in person I couldn't fault it however if someone said I could go back now and put 4 songs of my choice in place of the ones I mentioned then I would so I guess i do agree with the argument to an extent then. And yes they songs you listed above would do nicely to be fair.

  11. Great show tonight, glad to be able to hear the Mysterious Ways solo. Has been a while.
  12. Full reviews tomorrow, but I had an amazing time tonight.
