1. Right, this has been bugging me for a while - is the main riff played on the A string? (Or in Eb tuning, the Ab string lol) Is it just those two notes, or are you playing the whole chord and switching chords? i.e. 4th finger being used to cover 3 strings and swtiching between E/Eb and D/Db, C# etc.? I've probably made this sound far too complicated for my own good...

I watch so many different versions and am still unsure - PLEASE HELP! lol.
  2. it is on the A string with the E string. like you first stated. in the boston dvd he played it diferently because it was in a higher key, but normally it is played on the A-string.
  3. Main riff:

    A-----7---7---------7--------7----7------5--|---------
    E--0-----------0---------0--------------------|---------

LoL, I thought it was a succession of chords, not only pulled strings. Then, Edge must apply a really weird effect, so distorted...

Yeah the Boston version is in something like A or something ludicrous (only because I find it more awkward to play, solo wise), but I prefer playing the Eb version because I tune my guitars as such, makes it easy just to stick a capo on for normal tuning lol.

Cheers to both replies though, I recorded a version playing the riff using the chord, sounded wrong....

Solo's a piece of piss lol!

Yeah, that's what I used to think, also brings me to another point - speaking of effects, what type of Wah is it, if anyone knows? I've used Vox-Wah but it sounds too staticky, currently muddling around with Cry-Wah, just wondered if anyone's able to give a guide...again?

My god, I used to think I had this song to a tee, but the more you delve into the intricacies, the more you realise how off you can get lol!

That is very true People use to think that The Edge is not that difficult, but I haven't seen ANYONE playing a decent Bad or I Will Follow.

No idea aboutt he Wah he uses, sorry

Ha, yeah, it pisses me off when I have friends and stuff who (foolishly and misguidedly!) don't like U2 or just don't listen to it much, and say he's a crap guitarist or doesn't play difficult stuff - clearly don't listen to enough U2 stuff to make a proper judgement of his talent. No, he may not rip out a ridiculously complex solo to attract the attention, the way he weaves songs together is enough in itself, and I think you've picked 2 brilliant songs to use as examples, I can't play them properly or make them sound anything like him at all! That said, I'm just bad at Bad lol...

    very true liikeasong

He's the most subtle guitarist who ever lived.
While you could argue others know the framework of the guitar better, Edge knows its heart.

And no man knows pedals as well.
  11. I hate the videos where the backing track is SO loud that you can't make out what is the guy playing and what not. That bloke doesn't make anything for me, thanks for the effort anyway

PS. Hey, I can play better that I Will Follow riff, not joking. That guy doesn't even make the high notes.

What high notes? That guy sounded very good to my ears, the only complaint is about the harmonics part.
