  1. great reviews everyone I couldn't find the words to express the impression the movie had on me. I've seen it twice last saturday and am still blown away

    I agree though that the ending was a bit disappointing. I'd have liked to see yahweh performed by the band, for the version sounded totally awesome to me. instead we only got a short glance (and even that was only a very wide shot). however, I'll go and see the movie again for sure

  3. I forgot to post this after I went to the IMAX, but what was everyone else's favorite part of the movie (if you can pick one LOL.)

    > And I always like how Bono connects with the audience, How in Argentina he was attempting to speak some Spanish or in the Milan DVD when he spoke some Italian. I think it is really neat how with each crowd the audience relates to his music and lyrics where as he tries to relate to them with their language, current events, etc.

  5. My friend just got a job working the imax at the Franklin Institute in Philly, so guess who gets to see U23D for free whenever he wants!! Yeah, I'm so excited. I'm on my 5th screening, and it's just as good every time. Going again today.
  6. Well, I saw it too last night and I thought it was amazing! Great to see U2 with so many fans (I was with the U2 fanclub) on such a big screen with such a great sound system. I thought the 3D glasses were kinda uncool, have seen much cooler ones here. I also got a Joshua Tree poster, stolen from the wall

    But I have a few points of critic too, following up on an article I read in the papers yesterday stating that the movie was great and U2 was the first to do it, but with all the possibilities of 3D it could've been so much better. Sometimes parts fell out of the screen, not filmed good enough and the effects are nearly all the same. Also the 3D close-ups are not really that sharp, I think this could've been much better.

    I also spotted a classic Hamish moment (though he didn't direct this movie). One time you see a somewhat flat crowd, not moving or jumping. And one second later you see the same crowd from upfront and they are all moving and jumping and screaming like crazy ones. Ah well, must be films these days. I shouldn't complain

    I absolutely try to go again in the next week, great movie after all and a great new thing of U2.

    Summary:
    + U2 + big screen + U2 fans + awesome sound = AWESOME, give it to me any day!
    + Great 3D effects, loved the Adam and Bono shots, also the drum-kit looks very cool!
    + I love Adam, again this proves he had his best days during the Vertigo tour. New Year's Day gave me a smile on my face the whole song.
    + Even 'weak' live songs these days like Pride are awesome in this movie.
    + I love some effects like the drawn pictures after LAPOE, awesome!
    + The audience! Great plus for the South-Americans, especially during Streets, my god they are jumping and bouncing like crazy ones. Spotted some hot latinas in bikini too, always a good thing.
    + Loved the audience-wide shots, gave me goosebumps every time.
    + Sunday Bloody Sunday, LAPOE, great performances! I had a hard time tryin' not to jump and sing along.
    + Bono's voice on the high parts were great, did I hear some Pavarotti mixed during Sarajevo as well?

    - Movie was too short, though it's harder to sit through in a theater than in a stadium.
    - Too many great potential-great 3D songs were left out like COBL, Zoo Station and The Fly. Come on, we've seen all 300 movie-performances of Pride and One. U2 3D is a movie where fans will go to, and they made it a movie just for casual fans.
    - A few Hamish moments, a few mis-filmed parts, minor mistakes.
    - I missed some great snippets like 'Rock the Casbah', I always love snippets as a snippet-fan.
    - Yahweh, WTF? I don't want this song in my setlist, I only heard this song. For hearing a song out of a 3D movie I can grab the bootleg anytime. This was just a song played with some credits on screen. I couldn't see the band, the performance I looked forward too. Shame.
    - The camera direction during the high voices of Bono during Sometimes and Sarajevo could've been so much better, I love the direction on the Milan DVD where the camera just zooms in on Bono till he reaches his highest notes. That could've been great here too.

    A few bad points to the theater as well, the volume was somewhat too loud (like on a real concert) which made the sound not as clear as I would like to hear. My ears were buzzing for a long time. And there were some annoying girls who started screaming like crazy ones every time a close up of Bono was viewed (and that was a lot!).

    The war-songs were my highlight while One wasn't that great. As it never is anymore these days, live.

    In the end it's a great thing they made, I hope they do it again some time!

    The first word I think of when I think about this film. First of all, Remy, 'The Fy certainly was in it I think you meant Until the End Of The World, which really is missing. Elevation would have been great too. Next thing is that I really liked the ending. That city is nicely made, and it really fits the song. Of course I'd prefer a second Vertigo or '40' as closer, but this option was not bad at all.

    Of course it's to short, but hey, a lot more songs would be a lot more expensive don't you think? Next time it might be longer.

    I agree about the crowd, which really is stunning. Look how they go mad on Streets or With or Without You, fantastic Bono's voice was amazing those nights, as were the band's performances.

    The quality of the 3d is magnificent. It's not like seeing a movie, it really is like Bono's standing right in front of you

    Next thing that i really liked, is the sound editing. When the camera's focussed on Adam, you hear the bass a bit more. Whe you see Edge, you hear his guitar a bit more...That must have been hell of work to edit this, amazing

    About those camera mistakes I agree. The opera part could have been filmed better indeed..still it was amazing to see of course:0

    Oh yeah, I love the start by the way. The camera focussed on Larry's drumkit, followed by an magnificent crowd shot.... The start couldn't have been better than this.

    About the setlist: it was good to me. Of course we've seen those songs so much live, but still, they rock And the part just before 'One' starts, lights off, all those cell phones, Bono's playing with the crowd...

    And there were so much more things...I've forgotten half of it I'm so happy that I was able to see this movie. It really felt I joined the concert. I will never forget this night, as a friend of mine who was with me.

    I agree with some parts of the negative points which Remy pointed out. The transition between the songs were the same and the 3D feature wasn't fully used. I've seen a 3D-film before in The Efteling (a themepark in Holland) about the WWF. That movie had some great 3D-elements which I missed yesterday. But I won't complain too much, because it was just awesome overall. There always will be songs that should have been played, but if so, you'll get a setlist containing more than 200 songs, I'm afraid.

    Best moments for me:
    - Vertigo, encore break at the end before Edge comes in again...the place goes mad.
    - Beautiful Day, the last notes of Edge, while you see him standing there in front of that backlight....just great.
    - The Fly completely
    - SBS and LAPOE

  11. Saw it last week. FANTASTIC. I agree completly with what has been said already in that they didnt use the 3D aswell as they could have but who cares, its U2 on a huge screen, with a great audience, excellent sound and a top notch performance. What more can you ask for?

    Well chosen set aswell. I have to be honest, when I heard the first few notes of 'Sometimes.....' i was think 'Oh no' because I really think that song has been overplayed, but I was quickly re-convinced and when Bono hit that high note! My oh my! certainly the emotional climax of the film. Only complaint I have about the songs was the inclusion of 'Bullet The Blue Sky'. I know I'm gonna get shot down for that. But Bono's singing during that song was dreadful. yeh, he still has the range to hit those notes, but he's no longer able to sing them powerfully. It's such and angry song but I really don't think he delivered on it.

    great to hear and see miss sarajevo, chilling moments on the pavaroti part....
    the fly ''where is the fly?'' was awesome !
    vertigo, bullet, one, lapoe where very good

    but damn they missed a change to just film Yahweh and not put text and animations over it, that song was very good for a cool 3d efect....
    and it was rather short...
    but wat ive seen was good !
