1. I should know that!!

  2. Same here. Not sure if I'd say "bad taste" but one show was enough for me to realize nostalgia is not their strongest point. Seeing some of these JT songs live was incredible, sure, but it's not something I'd like to see them doing ever again.

What I still can't see clear is how they are going to promote a new single + new album while touring a 30½ year old album

Who knows anymore. If the reception isn't good to the single they may scrap the whole album and run back to the studio. They are the worlds most insecure band lately. I wish they'd take a more "fuck you this is where we're at now" approach to their shows and music. Bono talks a whole lot about being a "punk band" and coming from punk rock roots but they act like a teen pop group sometimes.
It's like Bon Jovi's new album they/he made it for the band and pretty much said if our audience like it.. That's enough

That's EXACTLY what I was fearing and tried to express in my previous post. And that's what many of us think happened with Invisible>SOI. Does anyone remember Bono shouting "WE'RE BACK!" when performing Invisible at that NYC rooftop? They recorded and promo-ed a videoclip, they made it on to the Superbowl ads (!!!), they did the TV&radio rounds, and then just....... vanished. They created all the buzz and got all the engines running, and then just fucking disappeared for 7 months until they came up with SOI out of the blue. That's what I'm partly fearing with The Best Thing, Blackout or whatever they're releasing in the upcoming days: if they don't feel satisfied with the critics, and/or if the song fails to reach a certain "relevance" (God how I hate that word), they might as well cancel the Dec1st plans and just finish the TJT30 tour and just disappear for a couple of months more.

    Argh

I thought Windmill Lane studios were demolished 3 years ago....
  6. I think they are a long way down the road with SoE and it's definitely coming. It was the involvement with the Mandela film that delayed SoI, in part anyway. I don't think Invisible was ever meant to be a lead single for SoI. It had huge coverage and it had a lot of downloads, so I don't think it failed. It raised a lot of money for Red.

Windmill Lane Studios the enterprise still exists, but it's not on Windmill Lane anymore.

Yeah, but again, even at that point they never mentioned SOI, and there's no way that this band wrote that album in that amount of time.

I really think that they just had that song ready to go and wanted to put something out - maybe their new manager urged them to? Many artists these days do that, just put out a song here or there to make sure their name is still part of the discussion.

I think maybe they had Invisible but weren't sure it fit on either SOI or SOE and wanted to put it out as a single anyway because they thought it was good.

Could be wrong though, but I don't think it could happen this time because there are a lot more rumours specifically about SOE, and the single is coming (supposedly) just a few months before the album.
  8. Promo tour will take U2 through Europe & US in November & December, via U2Valencia.
  9. Don't promo tours happen after an album is released? Could the album come out September 12th? An apple keynote is happening that day
