Windmill Lane Studios the enterprise still exists, but it's not on Windmill Lane anymore.

I never bought the "Mandela" excuse. This is a band that seems to think it is required to follow the Album, Tour, long vacation, try to write some songs, do an album, tour again...cycle. When you are 20-35, you can get away with it, but age creeps in, and it is hard to get back on the train again. It is scary how many songs from the vault they have held on to hoping to somehow make a great song out of a mediocre outtake.

You don't go "try" to write some songs. I am a songwriter, and I have made that mistake, and it works sometimes, but the only process that works well, is to always think of yourself as a songwriter, and keep being creative. I have probably banged this point a few billion times on here, but I know part of their life is exhausting with all the travel. For their sake, I think multiple shows in the same city will save their energy, but for songwriting, they are probably too stuck in this habit of thinking they can turn the switch on.

If I could go back in time and talk to them, there is not much I would tell them to do differently other than spending more time on songwriting. I used to keep paper and a voice recorder on me at all times, which now my phone does, but when an idea hits, I don't screw it up, or wait until it is "time" to write, I just do it.

Maybe they already do this, but it seems they don't ha.

It does seem like U2 are one of the only bands that still does the old fashioned album and then tours it long vacation album and then tour. Bands like Metallica, Bon Jovi etc just seem to tour all the time regardless if an albums on the way or not. Yes they still tour new albums but there's more tours in between, Bon Jovi has done probably the most amount of Tours and it's taken a toll on his voice, completey shot. Not comparing bands either!

  3. Just got this email! The Blackout is coming ???
  4. Seeing as school starts around Sept 7, and the new single should be out Sept 8-12, this could be a good month!

(Also going to the Maker Faire NY, Classic Quadrophenia, and Roger Waters that month. Please let the single be that month!!!)
  5. It's getting real now
  6. I'm pumped, but:

    A. The first single is supposed to be The Best Thing

    B. How does this mean the video/song is coming?

Not that I don't want Blackout, I'll take anything I can get!
    #hypetrain
  7. Also, am I the only person who was elated when they released SOI for free and automatically gave it to me? I thought that that was awesome!

I thought it was great too. Feeling a bit left out this time ?
  9. Also, wait, you were at the video filming? How was the song? Was it better than this album's rightful first single, Little Things?
