Also, wait, you were at the video filming? How was the song? Was it better than this album's rightful first single, Little Things?
Yes tell us what you can
  2. I don't think any of us read the contract and no one knows how much we can or cannot say.. Or should I just speak for myself?? hahaha

Tell us at least, is it a good song? Compare it to another U2 song

We're not asking for a leaked video/download. We just want to know:

    Is the song catchy?
    Is it good?
    Is it really good?
Is it a good possible first single?
    What's the best part?

    Et cetera.

I never bought the "Mandela" excuse. This is a band that seems to think it is required to follow the Album, Tour, long vacation, try to write some songs, do an album, tour again...cycle. When you are 20-35, you can get away with it, but age creeps in, and it is hard to get back on the train again. It is scary how many songs from the vault they have held on to hoping to somehow make a great song out of a mediocre outtake.

You don't go "try" to write some songs. I am a songwriter, and I have made that mistake, and it works sometimes, but the only process that works well, is to always think of yourself as a songwriter, and keep being creative. I have probably banged this point a few billion times on here, but I know part of their life is exhausting with all the travel. For their sake, I think multiple shows in the same city will save their energy, but for songwriting, they are probably too stuck in this habit of thinking they can turn the switch on.

If I could go back in time and talk to them, there is not much I would tell them to do differently other than spending more time on songwriting. I used to keep paper and a voice recorder on me at all times, which now my phone does, but when an idea hits, I don't screw it up, or wait until it is "time" to write, I just do it.

Maybe they already do this, but it seems they don't ha.
As an artist, you'll know that it's difficult to prescribe art or the artistic process. I don't think U2 were ever songwriters in the very crafted sense you prefer. For them it seems far more impressionistic and organic; the songs grow from jams, production, half-lyrics and Bono wailing in semi-English. It's a long process, but the results are unique and often extraordinary.

And of course in between they have to save Africa, New Orleans, prisoners of conscience, the US electorate, walk in other people's shoes etc!
  6. Also, has anyone been to the "listening sessions"? And if so, is The Little Things That Give You Away still utterly amazing? Were there any other good songs?
