I think there's a link between the wording in the description of the video and the fact that it's only on their facebook fanpage. It says "just for you". Coupled with the fact that it's not an official single, I wonder if they just wanted to put out a song they thought the fans would like, only to be circulated amongst fans? Obviously various sites picked up on it and reported it, but still, it's not on the radio, it's not an album release being promoted by mainstream media, etc.

The Invisible release being the only apparent precedent, yet the proximity of Blackout to the 1st of December is not really comparable to that situation. Unlike Invisible, I doubt U2 are flying a kite on this occasion.

The Single concept is pretty much outdated now. Especially for album focussed bands. The Blackout release in this manner is simply a promotional device for the album. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't included on SoE.

That'd be a serious retraction if it wasn't on the album lol. I just think it'll be this album's "Volcano" - not a front and center song they're playing on their promo tour or anything, just a "hey, fans will dig this" song.

I think it's what separates the song from the "just a rock song" category like Miracle, to my ears. There's something behind this song, with more work behind it than the other "mindless" rock songs.

Also the fact that this isn't a simple "power chord rock song" from Edge does wonders imho. I just wish they had found something other to finish the song than a repeat of the chorus. Maybe they could have gone back to that amazing bridge sound/feeling for the ending, develop it more, and end on it ?
