I think there's a link between the wording in the description of the video and the fact that it's only on their facebook fanpage. It says "just for you". Coupled with the fact that it's not an official single, I wonder if they just wanted to put out a song they thought the fans would like, only to be circulated amongst fans? Obviously various sites picked up on it and reported it, but still, it's not on the radio, it's not an album release being promoted by mainstream media, etc.

  2. Sounds good in my cobra convertible.
  3. Are people seriously jumping to the conclusion that The Blackout will not be on the album? Wow!
The Invisible release being the only apparent precedent, yet the proximity of Blackout to the 1st of December is not really comparable to that situation. Unlike Invisible, I doubt U2 are flying a kite on this occasion.

The Single concept is pretty much outdated now. Especially for album focussed bands. The Blackout release in this manner is simply a promotional device for the album. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't included on SoE.

    Are people saying that?

    It clearly says on U2.com:

"The Blackout, a new track from the upcoming album Songs of Experience."

That'd be a serious retraction if it wasn't on the album lol. I just think it'll be this album's "Volcano" - not a front and center song they're playing on their promo tour or anything, just a "hey, fans will dig this" song.

I have the feeling this track is going to be of far more significance on the E&I tour than volcano was on the I&E tour. I wouldn't be surprised to see it open every show and I wouldn't be surprised to see it show up on the promo tour regularly as well. They've went to the effort of marketing it and shooting a video for it, they must rate it highly.
  9. if the track from the insta post adam published is indeed a part of blackout then I guess it's jacknife lee?
  10. Give me a full album mixed by the Fish out of Water duo.

I think it's what separates the song from the "just a rock song" category like Miracle, to my ears. There's something behind this song, with more work behind it than the other "mindless" rock songs.

Also the fact that this isn't a simple "power chord rock song" from Edge does wonders imho. I just wish they had found something other to finish the song than a repeat of the chorus. Maybe they could have gone back to that amazing bridge sound/feeling for the ending, develop it more, and end on it ?

I have to agree with Sergio: Yes!!
I came here to write about the bridge and how I've been repeating just that part of the song - but you describe it perfectly

Even the second part of the bridge (mid-crowdsurf!), that nagging two note guitar with Bono's nagging "when the lights go out...", It does something magical for me

The song is settling in very well for me - well done U2...
  12. I reckon the song is all about aging musicians coping with not being as relevant or successful as they used to be... A perfect song to release as a teaser and musically share the intent for the upcoming album
