You're right, but I still say "to boy" could be interpreted as "the best thing that ever happened to the concept of a boy", or "you (meaning women/partners/whoever) are the best thing that ever happened to boys/girls/whoever".

How can "happened a boy" be interpreted?
Uhmm as someone who has dyslexia writing a song?

    I understand the same.

That ever happened to a boy (correct)

I've said before, we're all fans. We'll defend the band to the haters and be their harshest critics amongst ourselves. It's our right. It's healthy. We devote a shit ton of time, money, love & passion into the band. We have a right to be critics...
  5. Again they were trying to avoid
Vertigo/ Boots / Miracle / all fast rockers
    More mainstream
But they gave us Blackout as well to make sure we didn't freak out over a Super Pop Song

    Hope this is relevant enough

Yeah, it puts U2 onto the same podium as Bob the Builder and Barney the Dinosaur ?

I hope you are not bothered by any retorts. You made a valid point. Not everyone will ever agree on an united front about the band. In a way thats the beauty of this.A along as we are not offensive to people then i guess opinions can go astray.
I do see where you are coming from though. Maybe its the initial sense of disappointment people feel. The song deserves many plays doesn't it. Some will change their minds too.
As with almost every lead track since AB... I started unsure and grew to love. Some more than others. But don't hate any of them, either...

-I love the song. LOVE the song, but not the arrangement or the mix. Love the melodies, the groove, all of it. I think Kygo's version (hides from the flames of U2start) that had the "bridge" part in the chorus was a better arrangement and Edge doing his signature chimey riffage doesn't necessarily work here. It sounds pretty, but it messes with the groove. In fact, the groove is basically lost as the song goes into the chorus entirely.

-I think the strings or horns or whatever in the first part of the chorus are cheesy as fuck, it brings this tune into Tom Jones territory and it shouldn't be going anywhere NEAR there. Whoever thought that was a good idea in the mixing process should be fired.

-As others have said, it does sound very copy+pasted. The first verse builds really well, and going into the chorus it sounds like a totally different mix of the same song. The vocals sound like they were recorded on a different mic, the groove is lost in favor of building up the second part of the chorus (there are other ways to do that - see the dreaded Kygo version as an example), and it all very much sounds like a demo for a song that needs to be re-recorded. That instagram thing about a last minute mix that we thought might've been fake definitely seems real at this point.

To sum it up - again, I love the song, just not the arrangement or the mix. I hope we either get an updated mix on the album that sounds more polished, even if the arrangement stays the same, it would be nice if the verse and chorus sounded like they were recorded in the same studio - OR we start seeing some remixes. Someone else pointed out that the William Orbit remix is most (if not all) people's preference when it comes to Electrical Storm, and if this is the final mix the band is putting out - I wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar outcome here. For all people's bashing about The Blackout and how it sounds through that facebook video - it sounds a whole lot more cohesive than this song does.

After listening a few times it's growing on me if you ignore the flaws - it has some really great parts but I agree the freaking horns / strings ruin it. I think Guy Oseary, the guy who booked the 3rd leg US tour and the one who inserted the horn / string section should all be fired. .
  9. I've listened to The Best Thing loudly and quietly (my other 2 listens had been at work and very low volume since the boss is sitting right behind me) and well, I've enjoyed it a lot lot lot more.

Still not even close to my Top 10 2010's songs but it's catchy and, to a certain extent, innovative. And it will definitely get a lot better live (although it doesn't even remotely fit in the TJT30 tour).
  10. Did not listened yet. At the office. Reading all the coments, should a bad single.
