Once I have a chance to go home, crack open a beer, put my headphones on and give it a proper listen, I think I'll dig it...

I haven't commented because a song is different to every set of ears. And like people, every U2 song has a redeeming quality somewhere - even if it's just a catchphrase or a verse...

    Here's what we gotta be
    Love and community
Laughter is eternity if joy is real!

    You don't know how beautiful
You don't know how beautiful you are

As Alex (ahn1991) said "In my mind a good song has to evoke an emotional response when I hear it" That will be different for everyone. You feel it. Or you don't. If you don't, don't listen and move on... But if you do... then man, dance like no one's watching!
My issue is that I love the song and I definitely feel it, love the lyrics, the melodies, but see if you notice it when you listen with headphones - the recording itself sounds off. The transition from the first verse into the chorus sounds weird, like the drums are completely different and quieter, Bono's vocals sound like they were recorded on a different microphone, etc.

I felt the same way, odd

Will check it out. But my ears have been known to overlook these things if the rest of the body is having a party...
  4. Better first impression than "Boots" and "Miracle"

The Edge did talk about a last minute change so maybe they've literally just stuck that chorus in over the one on the sci fi mix which is different at the end.
  6. What I mean above is maybe they had a chorus similar to sci fi mix with the two why am i's instead of the best thing at the end.
  7. I played with the EQ of the song in GarageBand, and is already sounds 1000 times better, damn this song is so badly mixed.

    Great song though!!
  8. Hmm that website with the mix isn't working for me Is there an other place to hear that one?

  9. Well said

I knew it wasn't just me! I want to go home and tackle it in my own DAW.

The only problem I'm having right now (still) is deciding between the "album version" and the "Sci-fi Soul Mix". The album version sounds clunkier with weird transitions at the beginning, like you mentioned, but overall I like how it builds up with the drums more dramatically than the laid-back sound on the verses for the Sci-fi mix.

Either way, it's joyful, it's uplifting, it's catchy, and I can't wait to blast it in my car on the way home from work! Edge's part near the end is by far my favorite. I've caught myself singing that part even more than the chorus.
