    I don't think it's out of place as such, but it sure has some auto-tune/auto-correct/some-auto-shit that's bothering me a lot I love that he got the chance to sing a few lines but this kind of thing pisses me off.

  4. I don't think it's a joke. For example in my comparison I was referring to how recent Taylor Swift single sounds chopped/blended like this version of the Best Thing. Like it's been compiled from different versions of the song. For me it's hard to connect or "get into" a song when the bridge feels missing.

    It's not like the song got any better for me, and too poppy is not accurate, because even by pop music standards this version is pretty weak.

    I do however enjoy the Soul mix a lot and can't wait for Kygo version.

    Haven't listen to her latest song, or any song so I don't wanna risk ear damage can't comment on that,
    All I meant was no point comparing her as her lyrics and talent to me can be beaten by my 4 year old cousin.
    A lot of people love her so...each to their own.
  7. I'm still wondering how could a song starting so good (as I wrote yesterday, it reminded me some Salomè outtakes) and then becoming such a kitschy tune.

    The ending is the best part. Great bass and drums. Dancable. Some Irish soul singing from Edge. To each their own i guess

    Have had it on high volume on repeat this morning on my trusty pair of Sennheisers and am still loving it for the most part. It's a great song to wake-up to, like 'Beautiful Day' can be.

    The opening, first verse and chorus are pure joy. Love Edge's backing vocals, they add an extra little layer, and his vocals in the bridge are absolutely sublime. Adam sounds fantastic. Bono's vocals sound gorgeous and I love the lyrics, there are some pearls here.

    Initially, I wasn't overly keen on the transition from the first chorus to the second verse, but after a few more listens, it seems to flow much better.

    I still think some of the production is a little bit needless (the stuff going on in the second verse for example, though I get why they've added it) and I still think a little disjointed at times, but the melody is so catchy I can easily get past it and go with it.

    Leading into the bridge from the second chorus ("Why am I walking away"), the quirky guitar segment, and then Edge's vocal (which I find to be pure bliss) back into the final chorus, and then that almost abrupt ending... the flow feels a bit off here to me, and I'm guessing it's the part of the song that the band together with the multitude of producers involved have had the most problems trying to fully nail down. Not everything has to flow, I know, but I personally find this part of the song a bit all over the place.

    Bono has spoken before how difficult it is to write joyful songs. I think they've pulled it off here, in the same manner they did with 'Beautiful Day'. This song has ridiculously infectious hooks and melody lines running throughout most of it that are not a million miles away from the likes of the mass appeal classics by ABBA or The Monkees, yet it still has that trademark U2 'ache' and melancholy in there that Bono has previously mentioned.

    I hope some other mixes / versions see the light of day and I think once they've aired it live, the song will take on a new life and lose some the overproduction and disjointedness. I think this will become a new U2 classic in the years ahead. Not everyone will get it or like it, that's fair enough when you've got a band of such mass appeal that U2 have, but I don't think it's bad for a bunch of men hurtling towards their 60's.
  10. I’m not wild about the song, it’s a bit too poppy for my taste but I don’t hate it either. I like to think of it in the context of the current Joshua Tree tour. I think most of us agree that Beautiful Day / Elevation / Vertigo are not necessarily our favourite U2 songs but on the three nights I was lucky enough to see the show, they absolutely rocked live. The crowd was jumping throughout this section. We took our twelve-year old twins to Twickenham for their first experience of seeing a band live and the joy the four of us had jumping and singing Beautiful Day together was fantastic. My point about the new single is that I can totally imagine it fitting into this section and getting the same reaction. No bad thing.

    Sometimes we need to take a step back and appreciate what a wonderful ride we’ve had with this band. None of us know how much longer they will continue so I for one intend to relish each and every new song
