    I suppose that's a fair point. New Years Day is simple, but it's the notes he wrote to go with the bass that are phenomenal. You're right, little Things is simple chords. I just think he tried playing them on guitar but thought piano suited the song better. It's not really an "on fire" situation :p but he's serving the song well still IMO.

    Thing that also makes me go "hmmm" about Adam's killer bass parts is that Edge has written some of them

    I don't think the little things would work as well with guitar instead of piano. The way it builds up is perfect for me, it goes in a direction you can't really see coming when the 'sometimes' start. Also just thought I'd add Lemon in there too as great u2 song featuring piano, anyone ever noticed the similarity between it and New Year's Day, before the guitar solo in NYD I think it's pretty similar to the piano solo in Lemon.

  4. I wish the "why am I walking away?" line was present after the first chorus on the album version. It makes a much smoother transition to the second verse like the sci fi mix. I do prefer the guitar in the verses like the album version. Within those 2 mixes there's a perfect mix.

    To be clear I wrote about "Bowie in his final decades" - I was thinking of his run of albums from Heathen though Blackstar. Bowie himself looked back with some embarrassment on the Let's Dace album. He was selling out, he knew it, then he regretted it later. I do love the song "Blue Jean" though!

    Though Bowie also famously once said that he had 'lost his integrity' in the 80's - from the fourth song in Let's Dance onwards.
  7. I r coin the Fallon version will be way better than the album mix.... lIm digging how loud Adam and Larry are in the verses.... I hate that they turn them down during the chorus. That first verse is catchy and poppy in a good way IMO. Then the chorus and middle eight are meh.

    I have a really strong feeling that the version on the album will be different from the version released yesterday. Couldn't agree more about the structure, too. The single they released is almost totally fine, they just need to make the chorus mix better with the verse (it still sounds weird to my ears) and add that back in. Otherwise, it's fine. Although, I have to say the part before Edge's verse with that little riff sticks out kind of oddly to me. I like it better when it's just the guitar underneath the chorus (a la Kygo's version and the Sci-Fi mix in the second chorus).

    It's all part of a cycle though, ain't it? I loved Bowie in every decade... some better than others. Honestly, I enjoyed the pop 80's more than the 90's works. To each his own. And though he regretted it, it still represents some of his lasting work, but, it also represented the turn that brought him back full circle, no? And he never stopped trying to reinvent and do something different. I think all great artists do. Where Bowie stood out, is he really didn't care focus so much on his work being "relevant" which, I think, helped him indulge...
  11. U2 regrets Rattle and Hum and Pop, yet we still love them. There's no argument to make there about The Best Thing, or artists who regret their work in general. Tons of artists regret creative output that fans still love.

    Well Wdge said in one of the interviews yesterday, once a song is released the fans own it. So obviously they might end up disliking something they made while others love it.

    Also. I hope the version we got yesterday IS the album version. Screw it. I got over the disjointedness and now love it. Stuck in my head all day.

    I think if the "why am I walking away" part was there twice it would make the song sadder. By having it at the end it kind of comes as a surprise. And the listener would ask "Yeah. Why are you since she is so great?!"

    Also peoplentalking about howbit sounds like several songs in one or a mess or whatever. The Little Things could be considered the same with the way it changes into a slight rocker at the end.
