Now that The Best Thing is out to far more divisive reviews than the Blackout, it is even more of a head scratcher to me what they were trying to achieve with the Blackout "non release" strategy. If it was a teaser to get people excited about the album and next single, following it up with the poppy, fluffy The Best Thing makes no sense and ruins any momentum created by the Blackout for those who prefer the more rock side of U2. I can only hope they salvage this by properly releasing the Blackout ASAP and playing it live on Fallon.

    Maybe to reassure some of the fans that want "a more traditional U2 sound" (whatever the hell that is) after they hear The Best Thing/Kygo Remix/Kendrick Lamar collaboration.

    We'll probably never know.

    After listening from that interview with Edge from earlier today, I think the album is definitely going to be a mish-mash of sounds and influences. Hey, I'm all for it!

    (still think The Best Thing on the album had better have the best mix though if you know what I'm sayin')

    Yep... If they had released -I Don't know- Fez? one week before Boots, maybe people would've been more receptive to the album.

    Or Gone before Discotheque.

    Best Thing with no Blackout (or Little Things) would have me worried about what to expect from SoE. Now, not at all.

    Always a bit of a gamble of course. If AB would have been received badly, we would now say 'They should have released One as first single'
  9. The font is definitely some sort of futura off-spring, but I haven't been able to identify it as some sort of standard font.

    It's very close the Century Gothic, but with (very) slight rounded corners and it's a little bit wider overall. And then there are some minor alterations to some individual letters (e.g., the "belly" of the "B" is the same size as its "head," if you know what I mean...; the "A" has a pointed "roof" and the "O" is obviously customized).
    Anyway, it is not uncommon for designers to slightly modify a basic type font. It wouldn't surprise me if this is also the case with this font used for the Blackout.

    I was the complete opposite! I love The Best Thing, and it was a relief to hear after The Blackout. The result is the same though, so releasing both was a clever plan.
