First, I know we're a U2 site, but Beck was fucking AWESOME. Really, really incredible set.
Second, I think last night's GA crowd was much better than DC's GA crowd. (Obviously there are going to be some exceptions, and I was also in the front, right by Larry at the tree stage, so I didn't have a great view behind me, but that's just what I picked up.)
Third, as mentioned above, Bono's Indianapolis references (Kurt Vonnegut, Bobby Kennedy, Dalton Brothers, couple of local women on the screen during UV--Madame CJ Walker and someone else) were really, really great. It made the show really special.
Fourth, well, we got the tour debut of the new single, and it sounded great. Loved it.
Fifth, the band (especially Bono) seemed to have a lot of energy last night. Bullet was really fiery, Exit was insane as always, and Vertigo was (I thought) actually really remarkable last night. Bono really threw himself into that It's Only Rock 'n' Roll snippet. That was one of the highlights of the evening for me. (I think maybe he was trying to get everyone going because he knew the new song was next.) But yeah--easily the best version of Vertigo I've heard live, and I'd say it even rivaled my love of the Stories For Boys version from the Vertigo Chicago DVD (and I *LOVE* that version).
I had a great time, met a lot of great people, and I'm so glad I decided to make the trip home for this show. Now if I can only make my ears stop ringing, lol...

If that's the only thing you've heard, I get why you might have a lukewarm reaction to it. But I thought it sounded great live. It'll be interesting to see how things progress with that song (and if they'll bring any more new material out?) going forward.
