Agree with you that the band mix is poor (although I really, really like it). It could have been a more solid and coherent mix. But the quality of the mixes has dropped overall since they dropped Eno/Lanois.

To me, this Kygo thing feels like a Coldplay move. They don't make music like they used to. Instead, they rely on edm.

I don't know.. I like the idea of an edm mix supporting the single. I don't like an edm mix to be the single, backed up by a band mix. Don't get me wrong here: I do like the Kygo mix
    I suppose that's fair.

I guess at the end of the day, I just wish their version was better, in a general sense of the word. Really, I shouldn't like an EDM remix more than a "U2 version". U2 is my favourite band, my taste in music was basically built around their style, etc. - and I usually hate EDM! Maybe it's Bono's vocal that's saving this one for me, or knowing U2 had a large hand in it.

But yeah, I wish I liked U2's version better than this. Hopefully the album version turns it around.

You think the album version is going to be different from the single mix (or maybe sci fi mix)? That would be interesting
  3. Just noticed he got rid of The Edge's little bit. Good stuff.

  4. I guess my Facebook search skills suck hahaha, I'll just wait a couple of hours
  5. Yeah I can't find the full thing either...
  6. listening to it now, definitely got an update from last year. Quick ranking of the mixes for me so far:

    Original Kygo
    New Kygo
    SciFi
    U2 cancels SoE
    Lillywhite version
  7. Don't forget that there could also be little nuances in the live version that we couldn't hear through the phone audio lol.

Apart from the lyrical changes and the few things added, it's 90% the same to my ears.

the version last year seemed to pack more punch and flow better with the original lyrics and structure
  9. The punchiness could've come from big PA speakers though too.

I don't mind the new lyrics, and the structure isn't different enough for me to let it bother me much.

All in all, I'm glad we have a good sounding version, and I still like this way better than the one U2 released.

I do think Bono's vocal performance was a lot better in the version we heard last year though..
