  1. I'm sure you can find some people in Dublin who saw them in their early days who think they sold out by RELEASING Boy :p

    And yeah, it's all understandable about people being fans of different eras. The point Sergio is making is that if they lose the fans they gained back with ATYCLB/the ones they never lost, who will be left?

  3. That's what I was trying to say earlier but then opinions, thoughts and feelings are supposed to be shared on here so I can't blame people for expressing them, but we're just over 2 months away so it's definitely worth trying to reserve judgment til then.

    Not a great start with the 3 revealed so far best thing seems to have disappeared off the radar already and could rank alongside Boots,crazy tonight and Cobl as been pretty forgettable and bland, problem is with a career spanning 40 years and the last time that they were really relevant was 2004 its pretty hard to surprise and engage people with new material no doubt the alarm bells are ringing within the camp as none of the new songs have set the world on fire surprisingly with all the money they spend on big screens and technology you would expect them to put out a few proper videos for best thing and Blackout instead of a lyric and an Invisible part 2 knock off , Music Videos are a huge part of selling songs thanks to Youtube and Satellite TV its something they've neglected for a long time I dont get it they have the money to work with the best directors use the best technology yet they usually put out something lame ,Beautiful day and Vertigo were there last good ones and they helped make those songs worldwide hits , U2 seems to be going down the road of nostalgia tours and boxsets something they have resigned themselves to this year with TJT tour and multiple versions of a 30 year old album nothing to be ashamed of as every other band from that era are doing the same but i don't hold out much hope for "The Love Experience" as proven this year on tour the fans only want the old stuff

    Basically. They're not the widely loved Irish band they once were, they're not that anymore. Now they're older, fatter, more old-fashioned and less appealing to the new generations. Someone said in the other thread yesterday: The Best Thing has 2,7 million views in 2 weeks. My take on it: that's more or less what a new Beyonce/ Adele/ Drake/ younameit song gets in about 6-12 hours. They can't generate a new interest in the wide audience as they could back in the day.That's why I say that, if they lose a big portion of their current fanbase (and I fear that might happen if there's too much TheBestThing-like stuff in the album), there won't be much left. I hope it doesn't happen, but I fear it might.

  7. I have to say, The Little Things That Give You Away is a great U2 song in the vein of Mercy. Blackout and TBT? I get that U2Start is still one of the more modern U2 friendly sites out there, so I don't discuss those two songs so much because I have nothing nice to say about them.

    I'm already starting to get disengaged in U2 as of now. The teasing of SOE right after SOI just to hold back for whatever frail egotistical reasons Bono and Edge have, and then putting out generic rock song #358 and the identity-less TBT have me unenthusiastic for the new album. I really think they're trying but for whatever reason they've put out every bad cliche the band has built up through their career with these last two songs.

    I'll still jump with joy when I have the new album in my hands but teasing us with new songs only too hold back and then failing to deliver with messy mixes has caused me to reevaluate my exceptions of what U2 can put out at this point in their career and prepare for maybe a 'decent' post-2000 U2 album. Not good for the morale of a fanbase to condition them to expect the worst imo. That doesn't take away from all the great songs they've put out to this point of course, but the band's best days are truly behind us and it feels sad because, to me at least, that hope of a grand comeback are finally gone.
  8. I don’t know about you guys but Little Things is the only one of the 3 I still listen to very regularly. Haven’t listened to either The Best Thing or Blackout in a while. These do not seem to last as long as usually new U2 music does for some reason.

    Give it time.

    In my experience, the stuff I am mired by at first grows on me the most.
