I think it's crap, defeats the purpose of the last act as sacrifice and I hated the movie because of that.

Yeah Rises is nothing compared to the 2nd one. Nolan does love ambiguous endings but they do tend to lean to one thing over another. I believe he lives at the end if I recall.

I remember now something being mentioned about an autopilot for his plane so Batman gets out (which is not seen by us) plane autopilots to middle of ocean and Batman lives.
