Complaining that this is the same as Glastonbury would be like complaining that they "re-used" Every Breaking Wave on SOI.
They are complaning because it's also been used in Volcano and it's the same exact line.

Except that Every Breaking Wave hadn't been used in an already-released song. The chorus of American Soul is the bridge to Volcano, which WAS a released song.

EDIT: Ya beat me to it, Tim.
  3. Even still, calling back to that album should still be fair game. They're going to be seen as companion pieces when we look back on this era - and I think the re-use of SFS's chorus in "13" is going to be great. This could end up being the best "thematic" U2 we'll ever see.

Yeah thats why I like it, if there is a SOA, the same thing will happen.

I don't mind that, especially being that it's the closing song and the chorus of SFS is decent.

The bridge of Volcano is probably the lowest point of SoI, and now it's the chorus of a song on this album lol. I would've preferred something like using bits of Iris for a song about Bono's girls or something.
  6. Do you think we'll see any "mashups" on this tour, given the line sharing now? Given that they love re-arranging things and doing some terrible remix versions, maybe we'll get a sort of Frankenstein'd 13/Song for Someone and American Soul/Volcano
  7. They are complaining because there has to be something to complain about.

  10. Little Things and Blackout are both alright enough songs, but neither made me want to hear the rest of an album.

Get Out of Your Own Way and American Soul actually give me hope for this album as a U2 fan!

I thought it was a bit odd (but really not a big deal) that they used "Let me in the sound" on both Boots and Fez but no one said anything about that?

Also, calling back to lines or quoting other lines is something that happens in rap a lot. Maybe they are expanding the way they write songs and not just confining themselves to a certain genre?

I hope they get asked about it either way.
