1. For me it's definitely the weakest track of the four we've heard so far. Far too similar to Volcano which took me an age to warm too
  2. I wish everybody would stop saying it’s Volcano. It’s Glastonbury chorus they ripped not Volcano. It’s Volcano’s bridge which is about 25 sec of the song.
American Soul is far better then both of them.
It’s like being mad they stole parts of Spining Head to make The Fly.
When you listen to the 2 tracks ( Own Way - American Soul) together it’s very nice
  3. The similarities to volcano definitely made it a stretch for me it’s probably my joint least favourite with best Thing. I started to really get into it just as I did with best Thing and now I like listening to them both but not on the same level as the others. Maybe 6 or 6.5/10 for both so not bad songs.

No, because for all intents and purposes Glastonbury isn't real and never was. It was never recorded, never existed outside a few live performances.

You're right, it is only the chorus, and also maybe the pre-chorus a bit.

The difference with spinning head and the fly is that everything surrounding the part that was copy and pasted is completely different. This has pretty much the same lyrics, same guitar tone, etc. etc.

They're not the same song, I just think people wish U2 had written something completely new as opposed to this conceptual thing they're not really pulling off anyway.
  5. Lady with the Spinning Head is also a good song, unlike Glastonbury.
  6. it is an echo of Vulcano, just like Blake did with his two books. some people say: the gap between the albums is too big, well, the gap between Blakes's "innocence" and "experience" was 5 years..
  7. I get it, I just think they chose maybe THE worst part of SoI to make this "echo" with lol. It'd be like using Boots again out of all the great stuff on NLOTH for the purposes of echoing that album.

than they already did that on Fez
  9. yeah another "echo" will be song for someone in (I think) Landlady, that one, well...we'll see
  10. And "Iris" Free yourself, to be yourself if only you could see yourself,

it will definitely feel like they are companions
  11. U2 have form in this regard going way back to "40". Also the SBS signature drum beat was used in Please on Pop. All perfectly valid. It's art after all.
I think it's unfair to describe Volcano as the worst part of SoI. That prize goes to The Miracle in my book. As for Glastonbury, had they played that at the festival of the same name, they would have been slaughtered. So glad they trashed it and harvested the best parts for other songs. Also, a very typical way of working for U2. I'm surprised people are taking such issue with that too.
