1. I love Lemon, but hey, everbody's got a different taste. Also love the Wanderer from Zooropa.

I will say that I’ve never been as nervous about hearing a new U2 record. That should stand for something.

I’m the same, but on the other end of the spectrum, I’m having a hard time getting excited for it and feel sort of apathetic. The Mojo review gives me hope because the “best tracks” they selected are all tracks we haven’t heard yet. Other than Blackout and Little Things, I can deal with the others if the rest of the album ends up being fantastic. Hell, maybe in the context of the album those songs take on a new life too. I don’t remember anyone bending over backwards to say how good Best Thing was when it was released, but none of these preliminary reviews are saying “the album is fantastic besides the best thing etc” either.

I have hope, it’s small, but it’s there.
  3. best thing is a fun uplifting sing, not brilliant but a fun/mediocre song can be part of a very good album (unless you think best thing is totally crap).
arms around the world and wild horses are not stellar songs bit part of a brilliant album

It's the same with other polarising artists, e.g. Morrissey. Notice the amount of column inches of a review that go into his latest pronouncements before discussing his songs. When reviewing U2, every UK and Irish broadsheet review will mention the paradise papers, the SoI/apple thing, U2's age, Bono's stature/obnoxiousness, etc. It's just the way things are now for U2. Very hard for reviewers competing for views, shares, likes, bantz, yadda, yadda, to maintain perspective regardless of whether the album is the best or worst thing since Bomb, Baby, Boy or Behind. U2 have made their bed, now they have to lie in it. Only through the prism of time will we know where the album truly ranks in the scheme of things. This is all obvious stuff, I know, but worth keeping in mind for fans when wading through the impending avalanche of reviews. We've all been here before, I guess. Plus it's an outlet for dealing with the anticipation til the album drops/leaks.

    Good point!
  5. Definitely the song with The Haim sample
  6. Lights to Home then? Can't remember it.
  7. Yes, its Lights of Home. Also sounds a bit like the Fender clip
  8. Ok, I might not be an experienced u2 fan as some of the people here and I am a complete newbie on u2 forums, but hey, whats the fuss?
I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I thought this was going to be like... everyone is happy that a new u2 album is coming out, that we are getting the chance to hear 13 or so new songs from our fav band, we shall celebrate this.

Instead I see a lot of grumpy posts already bashing the album that hasnt come out yet Where does this negativity come from? Not liking one or two songs? Well buu-huu, too bad for you.
Are you looking for a new AB, JT, Pop? Well you are not getting that, dont you know that. Your not even getting a new ATYCLB, that alot like to bash aswell. You are getting a fu***ing Songs of Experience, a brand new album with brand new songs.

I am not looking for a new AB. I am looking for this... A new album to love. Like i love every u2 album. These past few days i listened to atomic bomb, leave behind, soi, nloth and was just wow, wow, wow and then I see alot here trashing those albums. I dont get it. Am I not objective enough?

And tell me this as i am interested, the ones that are old enough..when the first singles of AB, zooropa, and pop came out, were you saying it is going to be an epic album, a masterpiece, or were you trashing the albums before they came out. I really want to know.

    Cheers.
