I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I thought this was going to be like... everyone is happy that a new u2 album is coming out, that we are getting the chance to hear 13 or so new songs from our fav band, we shall celebrate this.

Instead I see a lot of grumpy posts already bashing the album that hasnt come out yet Where does this negativity come from? Not liking one or two songs? Well buu-huu, too bad for you.
Are you looking for a new AB, JT, Pop? Well you are not getting that, dont you know that. Your not even getting a new ATYCLB, that alot like to bash aswell. You are getting a fu***ing Songs of Experience, a brand new album with brand new songs.

I am not looking for a new AB. I am looking for this... A new album to love. Like i love every u2 album. These past few days i listened to atomic bomb, leave behind, soi, nloth and was just wow, wow, wow and then I see alot here trashing those albums. I dont get it. Am I not objective enough?

And tell me this as i am interested, the ones that are old enough..when the first singles of AB, zooropa, and pop came out, were you saying it is going to be an epic album, a masterpiece, or were you trashing the albums before they came out. I really want to know.

    Cheers.
Let me answer you with a quote from your post:

"I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion".

    That's all you need
  2. "Well f**k the opinion" I shout out in a Bonoish manner from SBS, Rattle and Hum. Haha ?

I wanna bring a dictatorship. Everyone has to love every u2 album and every u2 song.

Jk of course but it's not that faraway from what i want

    Anyway... SOE FTW!!!

I haven't ventured my opinion on the album because I haven't heard it yet - indeed: I am old-skool

Old enough to remember that one or two days before The Joshua Tree came out it was played track by track, one every hour
    - and man, we were so incredibly hyped

Anyway, this topic is a perfect example of a typical & cozy discussion on u2start, with pro's & con's, with moaners & happy folk
    - in short: as good as a hype can be in 2017

BTW: I am already a fan of You're The Best Thing About Me and The Blackout, but recently even GOOYOW + American Soul*
are starting to get used to me
Indeed: I rather seem to ask if the songs like me, instead of me wondering whether I like the songs...much less complicated

    *preferably played in unbroken sequence

Someone once quoted to me (Cesar?) that we as a fan-base can be quite critical of the band that we love, but we will defend them to the end to the non-fans. It's a love-hate-love relationship. But at the end of the day, there is no universal answer to any of the questions. If anyone tries to please all, they please none. Same would go for a certain group of Irish lads. You love a song? Great. You hate a song? Cool. You wanna voice your opinion? Cool. You wanna trash someone else's opinion? Not cool. Also, I've found that the moderators are 1) great at bringing people back in, and 2) you'll find a lot of people on these forums will have your back (BlueEyedBoy almost always agrees with me....lets get a beer).

So welcome, enjoy the gong show, and don't let the bastards grind you down.

    A grumpy post...bashing grumpy posts
  6. Not sure if a link to this has been posted, but some dude who has heard the album has given his take on each track via his twitter account. Interesting observations.

Amen from A to Z. Let's have a beer and play Party Girl. Can you handle the solo?

Totally with you on this one, but you'll get used to it.
Also, as far as I know, this one is the less-harsh-on-U2 U2 forum out there.

    ---

When Achtung came out, the radio station had a party and invited a big crowd of U2 fans for the live broadcast of the album release.
People were loudly booing from Zoo Station till the end, and made fun of the presenter when he dared to suggest that who knows, maybe One could become a new With Or Without You.

    ---

Keep in mind that U2 catalogue is wide enough that is impossible to agree 100% on what is a good or bad U2 song.

For some people SOI is one of their best albums, some others think it's the worse... But then the same happens with Pop, one of the weakest for some, while it makes the top three for others.

Check the overrated and underrated songs threads and you'll see many overlapping songs.

Do you like Passengers? That's another divisive one.

Actually, every U2 album is and will be divisive.

But I'm really happy that there's more of the positive crowd around here to counteract the negativeness that surely will transpire when the album is out.
  9. I, for one, couldn't be happier with what I've heard from SOE. The negativity can bum me out sometimes, but like has been said...opinions. I've been a die hard for 17 years and still think they're at the top of their game. Especially live. Cheers y'all.

I know what you mean about the negativity. For some reason there’s nothing better than hearing that everyone loves the same song and music as we do. However I also look at negativity, or not to limit it to just negative but any difference of opinion with my own, as an opportunity for debate and find that interesting in itself. It must make all of us at times genuinly puzzled and almost unable to believe when someone doesn’t like one of our favourite songs or perhaps rates a song we’re not too fond of very highly, it’s all part of our different tastes and ways of looking at music.
  11. Geez you make one lame comment to The Edge and suddenly everyone's all over you!!!!
