1. I'll be honest and say I was expecting to like this album but not be totally crazy about it (about like R&H, TUF, October, ATYCLB)....

But come on U2, you did it again. SOI is my favourite album.... and SOE is right up there too. It really really feels like a top 5 record for me.

    We'll see how it ages....
  2. Does anyone else get misty eyed looking at that album cover? Circle of life and all that. It comes and goes in the blink of an eye near enough.

Those kids have now the same age they had when Boy was released...

The album in general gets you thinking about all that sort of stuff. It’s all very moving but it’s done in a great way not soppy at all. That’s part of the true greatness of this album. It would have been very easy to end up with an album full of throwaway soppy songs that had no depth to them but there’s tonnes of depth in SOE.

EXACTLY MAN! I really feel a real connection to a lot of these songs - about dealing with hard times, personal crises, things like that - but they're not weak soppy songs. They have that U2 charm to them.

and they encourage to do something, to move forwards
  7. I think a lot of us are really feeling this album. That in itself is great, as much as we’ve all got our own unique tastes, this collective response really adds to it all. I’m enjoying this general mutual agreement about the quality and finding out what it all means to everyone, I know it means a hell of a lot to me already, and there’s a few songs I couldn’t live without already.

Haha, that’s what I mean. Like, why? Why is it so uncool or whatever to like U2 there?

Guarantee if Bono walks down a street in Dublin people would be happy to say hi to him, same people who talk shit about him otherwise.

The massive crowds that flocked to catch a glimpse of Bono when he joined Glen Hansard and the Irish indy musicians for the charity busk on Grafton Street on Christmas eve is testament to this.
  9. Just finished listening to the whole thing and I'm so fucking happy I might cry

It's especially nice because a lot of us regular posters were hesitant because we didn't like the pre-album tracks (I liked 'em fine and still do but definitely understand why they weren't everyone's cup of tea) - so when everyone heard what really killer songs were on the record, there was a lot of surprise there, I think.

Yep fully agree, I just caught myself having a moment again listening to Love Is All We Have Left. There's a bitter sweetness that runs throughout, pretty much like life in general I suppose.
