For me, "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" brings about images of a guy walking through a ruined city, bombed out so now there's bricks and stones littered across the paths. Small fires burn around him, and he's all alone as he walks through the empty city, contemplating, calling out for his lost love.
Joshua Tree really brought this to life for me!! The band did a really great job of conveying the pictures of landscapes in the desert with this album. It happened to me by a pure divine blessing! I was about 13 or 14. I had stolen my brothers casette of JT and my family and family friends were driving through AZ. I decided to play that tape, put the headphones on. Amazing!!
In the backseat of the car watching the road go by, just beyond, the sun setting so perfectily, as the clouds and the light created colors, different shades of purple, blue, red. Up against the Arizona mountains. Through the headset I hear With or Without You, I Still Haven't Found, and Where the Streets. Something happend at this moment. It was as if the music was written for this time and place. Like it all lined up. It came together for me then, I think I realized at that moment the power of music, It changed me!!
It wasn't until I was much older when I realized the power of U2's music and the inspiration I recieved from them!!!
